yet another cabinet coat question...
Comments (2)Apparently, where you buy the Cabinet Coat makes a difference. I bought it at a Bruning Paint Center, and they had the codes to color match the Cabinet Coat to a shell white Duron color that I needed. If you have doubts about the color, you can buy a quart for about half the price of a gallon. Here is a link that might be useful: Bruning Paint Company...See MoreYet another crown and base mouldings question
Comments (3)Palimpsest, Thanks for clarifying the visual aspect. Using the same dimensions for moulding makes sense now. I'll have to take off the crown from the bookcases in order to get the new moulding to fit, but that's ok. I think I'll be okay with having medium dark poplar crown covering dark mahogany bookcases. But what do you think? My mock-up is equivocal insofar as covering the bookcases looks better than coping the new crown to meet the bookcase crowns. I won't replace the base moulding on the bookcases because of the current height and presence of airvents. You've been a great help. If you have any other comments or suggestions, please advise....See MoreYet another BM white paint question
Comments (13)All the trim & doors in my house were painted BM Dove White, which I love. When I purchased my kitchen cabinets, it was a 5% upcharge to match the Dove White, so I went with one of the cabinet manufacturer stock whites, which was whiter than Dove White. I think once your cabinets are installed, the decision will be clear or at least clearer. My kitchen & FR are connected. The baseboards & crown molding are continuous. The cabinets go up to the crown molding so the two whites were right next to each other & were very different. Very noticeably different. My cabinet color made my Dove White lean gray, not yellow. I ended up painting the crown molding, baseboards, door casings & window casings in the kitchen & family room the same color as the cabinets. The actual windows (grilles & interior window trim) are still Dove White & the color difference is not at all noticeable. The trim in the rest of the house is all Dove White & also not noticeable. Even the doorways, where one side of the door casing is Dove White & the other side is a whiter white, is not noticeable. Don't regret your Dove White choice-still one of my favorite BM whites and there are many beautiful Dove White kitchens on GW & Houzz. As far as paint, if your cabinets butt up to your trim, you'll want to match the color & the finish or sheen. We used an oil based BM paint....See MoreYet another kitchen backplash question
Comments (4)Since you love the way the painted surface looks (others here, including me, also really like the simplicity of that look), why don't you just try painting with a good-quality washable paint and then letting it age and harden for a few weeks before scrubbing? If you should decide later on that you want an even more durable surface, then you could bring in tile....See Moremillworkman
