Thanks Jim - growing up in PA and living near Philly I am quite familiar with Penn State's mascot. My Alma Mater, the University of Pittsburgh had the Pitt Panthers. DH also attended college in PA and his teams were Catamounts.

High on (off) the hog We often hear this salty expression used to refer to someone who has achieved a full, prosperous life. “Old Tom surely is living high on the hog these days.” The expression is quite literally accurate, since you to go pretty high on the hog to get the tender – and expensive – loin chops and roasts.

Everyone to his own taste This phrase “Everyone to his own taste, as the farmer said when he kissed the cow” is a variation on an English folk saying that goes back at least to the mid 1500s. The version then current went like this: “Every man as he loveth, quoth the good man, whan he kyst his coowe.” A similar notion is contained in the well-known French proverb “Chacun à son gout” – “Everyone to his own taste.”

I loved reading the Greek myths as a kid so I know the story, but I don't think I've ever heard the phrase in spoken language. But I have heard "gullywasher" used when a heavy rain sweeps down the hills and cleans the streams down to bare rocks -- running water is a powerful force!
