'Protect Pollinators' new license plates
Comments (8)Hi! We're 1/3rd of the way there (151 applications as of yesterday) and have until December 1 to collect them. (We can continue into next year if we don't have enough by December- there are all kinds of 'what if's' in that case, so by December 1 is best :) collectordi- right now, we're taking pre-sale orders, which means I'm a middle-man for the DMV. They won't be available on the DMV's website until we collect all 450 prepaid applications for the first round of plates. You can go to www.pollinatorplates.com for more info- there is a 'get your plate' link which should explain the process, and also a FAQ page. You can also email me at pollinatorplates at gmail.com if you have more questions! Thanks very much :) Here is a link that might be useful: Pollinator Plates official website...See MoreLicense Plate Photo Shield
Comments (11)Just a comment on the safe driver comment. My DH got a photo radar ticket for being too safe. We were driving down one of the main streets of our town one night about 11pm during an ice storm. He was driving 18mph. The light turned yellow as we approached it on a 6 lane road. His choice was to try to stop and possibly slide everywhere or to keep going. He kept going but because his speed was so slow he did not make it across all 6 lanes before the light changed to red and the camera took our picture. Had he been going the speed limit on the road (45mph) he could have made it through the yellow light in time, but because he was driving a safe speed for the conditions he was ticketed. Also, our local police department has since increased the length of time that particular light remains yellow because there was only enough time for people driving 40mph or faster to get through the intersection once the light turned yellow and it was causing too many accidents from people slamming on their brakes. Since increasing the length of time on the yellow light accidents have decreased at that intersection dramatically. So anyway, my husband's safe driving on icy roads caused him to get a photo radar ticket. He could have gone to court and fought it, but the ticket was only $80 and he would have had to take a day off from work to fight it which wasn't worth it....See MoreLicense plate bolts sheared off - what to do?
Comments (1)Usually these bolts are threaded into plastic pieces, so your biggest challenge will be getting what's left of the bolts out without totally ruining the plastic. If this was on a bumper and you had access to the back of the hole, I'd say just tear the plastic out and use a screw, washer and nut to put the new plate on, but I think on a Civic the plate is on the hatchback or back of the trunk lid, so you probably don't have access to the back of the hole. Given that, the best thing I can think to do is buy a good quality metal boring drill bit slightly smaller than the diameter of what's left of the bolt and just drill it out. I have had good luck with the Bosch, DeWalt, and Milwaukee drill bits. You're looking for one bit that'll cost about $5 or $6, not a set of supposedly "metal boring bits" from some off-brand, because usually those won't actually drill through metal. Be sure to wear eye protection when drilling through metal, and a plug-in electric drill works better than a cordless because the electric ones usually spin faster. Be very careful when you get toward the bottom of what's left of the bolt so the drill bit doesn't shoot through the hole and damage something on the other side....See MoreWorld's best license plate!!!!!!!!!!!!
