Oh geesh, this is freaking me out..!!! Several yrs ago I bought a little plant for .10..an elderly retired man who sowed seeds during winter months, then sold via our neighborhood newspaper..his seedlings were dirt cheap..I ended up bring home datura, and planted out front..They grew a few yrs later, then about a yr ago, none sprouted..In the past few days I've been working outside, and wouldn't you know it, there's tons of daturas growing by the edge near walkway. Now I don't know what to do..should I pluck them all? I don't know how many I touched yesterday, but I KNOW I handled a few. BTW, dats have a stinky odor..Now I've a big decision. BTW, I've also a brug, kept in gh during winter, and outside in summer..Feel like tossing everything out after reading that article..LOL..Toni

Wow after reading that article it seems we are all doomed. If you can get shingles after the chicken pox vaccine. I am really glad I got my shingles shot. I tried to find the original studies that were about exposure to CP and immunity but no links.= " We know that exposure to chickenpox can significantly prevent or delay shingles (by exogenous boosting of immunity)Increased annual chickenpox rates in children under 5 are associated with reduced shingles in the 15��"44 age group" This doesn't really convince me as most people I know that get shingles are late 50's or older as immune systems decline. I am not sure which article I read that says CP is seasonal but shingles isn't may be missing info too. As the area my parents live in has shingles outbreaks just like chicken pox normally in the late spring early summer. I wonder if as the boomers age if stats will become clearer. The CDC article says you can spread CP with shingles but does not mention shingles to shingles. Which I have personally seen amoung my parents friends.

The easiest way to approach diarrhea is to first classify it as acute vs chronic (your cat has chronic diarrhea), and then to classify it large bowel or small bowel diarrhea, or both. Here's how to tell the difference between large and small bowel diarrhea: Small bowel diarrhea: Weight loss, polyphagia, vomiting, abdominal distension, halitosis common; normal to increased frequency of defecation; increased volume, no mucus or hematochezia (bright red blood) Large bowel diarrhea Weight loss, polyphagia, vomiting, abdominal distension, halitosis uncommon; increased frequency of defecation, normal-decreased volume, mucus present, hematochezia present Then you work through the list of differentials and test for or eliminate each one as a cause for your cat's diarrhea. Some things are easier to diagnose than others- parasites are easy when present, food allergy or irritable bowel syndrome usually requires intestinal biopsy for example. First thing I'd do is make sure you know your cat is FeLV and FIV negative; those are fatal diseases and may affect your decision to pursue further diagnostics. FeLV can cause GI lymphoma in very young cats, so I would be especially sure you weren't dealing with an FeLV positive cat who frankly has no hope for recovery before allowing the cat to suffer further and for you to waste money on more diagnostics and treatment. Your vet can test for FeLV and FIV with a few drops of blood and a 10 minute SNAP test while you wait. In any dog or cat with diarrhea, I deworm with 3-5 days of fenbendazole regardless of stool tests. Parasites don't always shed eggs into the sample you get. Sometimes I also treat for coccidia with ponazuril if I have strong suspicions even if I can't get a sample or don't see any in the sample. It doesn't hurt to deworm and may solve the problem. You can't test for giardia, coccidia, and bacteria by a sample from home. It must be FRESH and examined immediately, because once those bugs stop moving, it's almost impossible to find them. And no bacteria is just as bad as a bacterial overgrowth, but I can't believe anything they say regarding bacteria in an old sample anyway. I always give probiotics to patients with diarrhea to help re-establish normal intestinal flora. I hope you can get to the bottom of this soon. Diarrhea is no fun for your cat or for you.

Thanks to all of your excellent posts. There's a measure of truth, maybe more, to many of the posts. (1) I didn't start out hating my SD. I married my wife when she was 8. The barrage of incivilities and meanness started when we were dating, but I thought she'd outgrow it. It kept pretty constant right through her high school years. It got better when she went to college, but I'd say she'd do 3-5 things that were disrespectful or uncaring every day she was home from college. As a young woman, she's a little better. but multiply all of those "incivilities" by hundreds and hundreds of days. Can you blame me for negatively interpreting stuff that seems innocent on its face? (2) Now add this factor. It was a divisive force in our home and in my marriage. My wife is a great mother, but she is so defensive about her daughter and frankly, sees her as perfect. No chance to talk about issues, no opportunity for me to have a "voice" and say what the SD is doing that is bothering me. Imagine how frustrating that is. (3) Add this as a factor. From the time my SD was small (7 or 8), she began to treat me as a sex offender. I'd come into the room, she would leave, unless her Mom was there. I thought this was something she'd outgrow, but she didn't. We're not on year 23 of it. Imagine being treated like that in your own home, and your wife not care when you mention that her daughter needs professional help. (I'd like to add that my SD is now almost 30 and still has no male relationship...I think she's gone out on one date...maybe she was molested or is simply afraid of men? Seems abnormal but Mommy gushes over her daughter's chastity rather than see that something could be wrong). (4) Add that my SD doesn't respect me. I'm not talking about as a father figure, but even as a homeowner, and as my son's father. This is a person who can walk right by me in my own house and close the window curtains and not say anything while I'm sitting there. I can't imagine doing that in my parent's house...I've had so many battles with he not to correct my son when he was little when I was in the room. She really believes that she and I are on the same level and that Mom is the boss. That's her mindset. We've had battles over tv's, computers, etc. because she didn't or doesn't see me as someone that she has to answer to. Go to my wife-- she backed the SD-- confront my SD, she knew that she had my wife's backing. her attitude was largely "f-u". Imagine how humiliating that experience has been. (5) Add those together, and that's the tip of the iceberg, and I'm carrying around a lot of hurt, anger, rage, etc. with no place to go with it. Pastors often have no understanding unless they have been in a stepfamily (they interpret with a biologically intact family in mind), and some of the counselors I've been to also seem woefully unread on stepfamily issues. This list has greatly helped me. (6) Do I hate my SD? Sometimes. Do I wish it was just my wife and son and myself? Yes, every day.
