Andersen windows vs Okna Windows
Comments (42)We have also been doing extensive research thanks in large part to this site and some of the insightful posters. We saw all the usual suspects including andersen and pella. We were shown the Okna 600 and liked the window more than andersen believe it or not. We have a total of 10 double hungs with no grids. We are doing a ” basic replacement ” and we were quoted $7600 for all 10 windows including installation ( Okna 600 deluxe ). We actually signed a contract last week and think we were given a competitive price although we didnt base our decision soley on price. We should have our windows installed in late February based on all the supplier issues everyone is facing. We are also having a front door installed by the same company and we chose a fiberglass entry door by HMI Doors based on their recommendation. Its a craftsman style door with no side lites and we are paying $3400 including installation. Needless to say, we are excited and can’t wait for our new windows and door....See MoreMarvin Integrity vs Okna Enviro-Star
Comments (6)The Okna EnviroStar actually looks like a wood window when its installed. Many homeowners who live in older ( higher end neighborhoods) tell me they have an aversion to cinyl and demand wood. however, when i show them the Okna EnviroStar you would be shocked to find how many turn the corner and its never just based on price. its the performance as well as structural advantages of a higher end vinyl such as the Okna and last but not least, no maintenence. the EnviroStar is one of only a select few of higher end brands that can actually maintain or even enhance the integrity of a Tudor or older home. as a side note, you may want to request seeing the okna with antique brass or brushed nickel hardware. its a real head turner....See MoreMarvin Infinity vs Lindsay Pinnacle for MN Full Replacement
Comments (8)It gets very cold in MN. Like I said, I had the Marvin Integrity - which was fiberglass exterior/wood interior and really liked the casement version. The Marvin Infinity is fiberglass exterior and interior. I did not want wood interiors because I don't want to worry about painting/repainting or wood being exposed to or damaged by potential condensation. Both windows have the same argon gas and low E366 glass. I know the Lindsay is a good window, but I did like the look of the Marvin Infinity better, did not care for the look of the corner welds on the Lindsays vinyl. I feel that the increased strength of fiberglass over vinyl is worth the extra $4000. This is not a DIY project. The windows will be installed by a contractor that is an authorized installer of Lindsay and Marvin with 66 years in business....See MoreMarvin Integrity vs Sun Aluminum Clad vs Jeld Wen Premium Vinyl
Comments (14)We're in upstate SC as well. We looked at Windsor too - in our opinion Sun was a much better window overall. I don't have any photos - the top sash just slides down on some of the windows when unlocked. Here's a video from their website showing "sash droop" as he calls it, and how to adjust it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P1t0zmrdlsk And speaking of videos, one of the reasons we chose Sun (not a major reason, but I still appreciate stuff like this) were the videos they posted on their website showing stuff like that above. Here's more. We just moved in the house in July, and it's so hot here - as you know - that the last thing we want to do is open a window. So we really haven't made a big deal out of it with our dealer yet. We had them come out once to adjust a few windows that had the top sash sag, but we've noticed more doing it since then, and not all of the ones I've adjusted myself will stay up like they should even after adjustment. I'll be getting in contact with our dealer in the next week or so to get those top sashes fixed as we'll be heading into open-window season soon. I have confidence they'll fix it - Sun was very good about fixing the minor issues we had right after installation. It was primarily minor finish/paint issues (we had them paint the interior at the factory) and out of 35 windows they replaced about 6 sashes. Two of them were because the dealer didn't spec tempered glass in the stairwell - they replaced those sashes with the right kind of glass for free. Good service....See Moremillworkman
