Bathroom mirror spacing / large vanity

Help! I've moved my light fixtures and done drywall repair 3 times and we can't seem to get things right! I have 78" of vanity with 2 sinks. We followed the center line of the sink when placing the lighting and the mirrors. The mirrors pivot up and down (Pottery Barn Brass Vintage Rounded Rectangle Pivot Mirror, 27x35"). Lighting is from Shades of Light.

Is it just me, or does the gap in between the mirrors look awful? Can I hang a piece of art or do I need to bite the bullet and get larger mirrors or just have a large (single) rectangular mirror cut by a local glass company? The space just feels awkward, and I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed after our 3 failed attempts at making this right. Help!!

Add a tray or plant between the sinks.

There’s a wonderful golden ratio in nature dubbed the golden ratio. 1:1.618 Google it and how it is used in architecture and see how you can apply it to your situation.

In the picture, black is the current layout. Green is the change if only shower was made bigger and one door would be eliminated. Red is a complet demo, removing the wall section between two toilets. All the water lines from upstairs are in the section of the wall that is between two toilets so removing this wall would require a major move of water lines to the side and there would have to be a section of wall kept behind new toilet and vanity. The door from master would have to be framed and move to the left as a pocket or barn door. The drowing is disproportionate. It is all very cramped in there Current shower is only 26"x26". But may be replacing vanity for a wall hung vanity in the larger bathroom would change the feel. It will all have to be torn down and replaced including removing subfloors as they are rotten. So either remodel will be a lot of work. What should we do?

Here is your dilemma. if you take down those fixtures there will be two holes in the mirror, that being said, they will be up high and most likely off center. So, to get new lighting that is not stuck in the corners, and covers the holes behind it, might be next to impossible unless you run a thick bar that covers the space. But some times back in the day they only drug wire over and did not put in actual junction boxes, so the bringing it to code might be another issue. 1. take one of the lights down and see what is going on 2. probably have to replace the mirror and move the electrical location.

I’ve had master baths with large mirrors like yours and others with smaller mirrors hanging over each sink. I like the larger mirrors and opted to keep ours when we moved into a new house earlier this year. We framed around the mirror to match the molding; it was a custom job by a trim carpenter. Despite being passé, it is bright and reflects a lot of light and looks clean and is functional. Do not raise the height of your vanity /makeup area. It’s more convenient for actual use in its existing configuration. If you frame your mirror you will need to get a free standing mirror to sit on the lowered vanity counter. You should probably do that anyway; get one that flips to magnification on the other side.

Sorry, the pics not that great... only thing I have at this point. Cabinets will be white chrome hardware/faucets, white rectangle sinks and fantasy brown granite. Floors medium-light wood look tile planks. Hope this helps. Thanks for your thoughts.

I would put a small green topiary plant between the mirrors. It would fill the dead space and add some color. I really like your pivot mirrors. You also don’t have any toiletry items on your sink area which makes the space look quite sterile. Get some matching colorful soap dish, lotion bottle and toothbrush holder and that would also add interest.

I really think it's fine how it is. You could add a tallish plant (orchid?) like this:

If that doesn't work for you, I might look for something like this to hang on the wall:

Or perhaps some small pictures you could stack (3 of the same size).

It looks great. No art should be put in there. I’d recommend a beautiful orchid right in the middle.

You are right to notice something is out of balance. The sinks are far apart and there is a large space in the middle. To make matters worse the backsplash on the sides is higher and the back wall has only the vanity backsplash. But not to worry you can still bring balance...

Short of switching tge 2 mirrors for a large wall to wall mirror, a few options would be to add either a shelf, a plant or a towel rack inbetween mirrors or decorate the back wall with a wallpaper or a contrast paint. It really depends on what else is there in the bathroom and how much more effort you are willing to put in.

Here are some ideas

One large mirror all the way

Or just below the lights

Towel rack inbetween

Contrast paint and tall object inbetween

Or wallpaper

It would have been better to have a mirror cut to fit, wall to wall. It would also brighten the alcove and be more functional. You could leave it frameless or create some sort of frame. If you don't want to change what you have, just add an orchid or tall plant between the mirrors.
