Ugh, Pottery barn Refund policy
Comments (18)Patty, that's just nuts! How could one be expected to even assess the condition of the bag (i.e., is it damaged?) without opening the shipping box? I hate to say this, but I think I'd be tempted to damage the freakin' bag myself. Just out of spite. >;-D On a positive note: Last fall I placed an order for something for my brother, it was going to be his Christmas gift. (OK, so it was a pair of "collector's action figurines" from the movie, The Big Lebowski. Not that my brother plays with dolls, but he's a huge fan of that movie.) Anyway, I received an email a few days after I placed my order, advising that the products were on backorder. I waited and waited, and finally received another email, telling me that the products would not ship until February 2008. Uh, no good. I needed them before December 25th. I emailed the company, and they kindly agreed to just cancel my order. In January of this year, I received an unexpected parcel, and lo and behold - it's the Lebowski figurines. $50 worth of Lebowski figurines, to be exact - and I know I had canceled. I immediately contacted the company's customer support department, informed them that there had been a mistake and asked them how they wanted me to handle returning the items (they'd already refunded my credit card for the $50 plus shipping on my original order), and they told me: "So sorry for the confusion. Please just accept the figurines with our compliments and we hope you'll shop with us again." I was completely blown away! Now, I'm not sure when I'll have a need for more "toys" like this, but if I ever do, I'll definitely shop with those guys again. I couldn't believe that they didn't want to inconvenience me so much that they'd just give me $50 in merchandise, but that's exactly what they did. Pretty cool, eh?...See MoreGood, Bad & Ugly reviews for Online X-mas Shopping
Comments (53)My online shopping was all good: Kohl's, Best Buy, LL Bean, Land's End, Amazon and Ebay. I have my items sent to work as our neighborhood has sadly had things stolen from porches. There were some things I ordered late and they have not arrived yet - but I knew the dates were post-Christmas when I ordered. Only one is a semi-gift (a jacket for my husband who lost a lot of weight and needs one in a smaller size). The upside of those is that I'm shipping them to Son#1's place of work, as I won't be back to my own job for a couple of weeks. So we're going to meet him for dinner once he has both my orders. Katlan's rude checkout clerk reminded me of my rude clerk story from several years ago. I was buying Christmas ornaments to decorate a metal tree I'd gotten from a specialty store. The sum total was probably more than I'd spent for the tree itself. I was buying a couple of other things too. As the clerk was ringing the things up we realized that there was something wrong with one of the boxes I was buying. The clerk ended up being really rude about it. We finished the purchase with the plan that I would go way back to the seasonal section to get another box - even the cashier manager had come over to help because she heard the rude cashier. However, after starting to walk back to switch the boxes, instead I turned around and went over to customer service and told them I wanted to return everything. Everything?! Yes. I said that the clerk had been really rude and and that made me mentally step back and realize that I was overspending. Customer service wanted to know who the clerk had been, but I said that I understood that it's the stressful Christmas shopping season and I didn't want to point her out, but just wanted my money back. (I ended up getting the tree ornaments from Joanne Fabrics and used some JF Bucks I had to pay!) I guess a thank you to the rude clerk for helping me to spend less?...See MoreQuality of Williams Sonoma Furniture?
Comments (18)Purchased Carlton Square Arm Occasional Chairs (2) and (1) Yountville 109" Sofa and Berkshire Coffee Table Ottoman all Made in China - which I don't particularly have an issue with - HOWEVER - upone delivery this week Major Quality problems IMHO one of the chairs is unbalanced ( really - the quality controls is that bad a $3K chair shows up and rocks back and forth on a flat surface ) Also the Ottoman is only 14" tall and 70 lbs when the specification on their website clearly states 16.5" height and 131 lbs - serious quality control problems - plus you get to wait over 1 hour to speak with a 2nd level customer service representative. Because the furniture is out of specification - I had to send in pictures and now I have to wait 1 week for some team of specialists to get back to me on these specification issues. Additionally the Berkshire Waterfall Coffee table - specifications on their website says it should weight 70lbs - only weighs 50lbs - Makes me seriously question the quality of the furniture - like the outsourced vendor in China is taking short cuts. I'm going to wait to see wait to see what this quality team has to say - but I think Williams Sonoma Home Furniture is overpriced and a SHAM - I'm about 90% I'm going to return it all on principle. The sofa and the chairs - do look nice - but how can you trust the long term quality of furniture that arrives with these types of issues. I would be interested in getting feedback from others - perhaps I'm over-reacting - but you spend $14k on furniture and wait for 6 months and this is what you get ? Pretty pissed off right now about it...See MoreI have really got to vent!
Comments (149)If you're at all liberal, you will very likely be happier here. (I know Texas-- my family originates from there. I love it but would not want to live there.) However the cost of housing in Seattle is extremely high, and the homeless problem has been bad lately (it was getting bad pre-covid, but now it's way worse). Not a big problem in some neighborhoods, but others have tent encampments all over the place. I hope it's temporary, but for now it feels like it's never going to end. There's also the concept of the "Seattle Freeze" (look it up), so it can be rough on newcomers sometimes. But this city is really beautiful. I grew up in Albuquerque and moved here 20 years ago to escape the desert, and never looked back. My favorite thing is how each neighborhood is kind of like a small town ("urban villages"), with very few strip malls, etc. It's charming as hell. Another similar place to consider is Portland Oregon. It's a lot like Seattle but is a little smaller, more affordable, with better public transit, and is (supposedly) friendlier. I want to live there so bad, but my husband and I are pretty firmly rooted here for a while....See MoreOakley
