Good thing you don't live in communist Canada. Well an elected dictatorship anyway. Manatoba has AutoPac. Government controled and implimented auto insurance. No AutoPac no car. It's that simple.Their valadation sticker is on your plates. They even control your drivers licence. We are the only place in the world that i know of that you get convicted of the same crime 4 times. The courts get you. AutoPac gets you. D.M.V. gets you, and the police get you. This is just a motor vehicle infraction. Just be thankfull you have a choice. Ex. D.U.I. it is a 6 month suspention. $500.00 fine. After everyone gets a piece of you it becomes minimum $1000.00 fine $250.00 for Alcohol rehab. $250.00 for the cource. Drivers licence goes from $40.00 to $100.00 with a $200.00 sir charge. Yes the police are involved instantly if it is D.U.I. or just an accident. If we have one accident that is our fault even if you haven't have one in 20 years our insurance goes up 50%, we lose every discount we ever got and our drivers licence goes up $200.00. If your car is a right off you lose it. Yes they take it unless you want to buy it back. They remove that price from your pay out. Just be thankfull you have a choice. We don't. If i could get my green card i'd be down there so fast i wouldn't hear a dial tone from the I.N.S. I'm sure after this comment the R.C.M.P. may be banging at my door. I think i used a few BUZZ words that shouldn't be used. If you don't hear from me in the next month or two you'll know what happend. Just my input. oooooh-noooo. I am so sorry you got hit with something like this. I'm sure you must be really frustrated and angry. But, if your builder is building the house according to the plans you approved - and I assume he is since you didn't say he isn't - there really is not much use in blaming him or trying to get him to bear the cost of fixing the problem. Do the plans show steps from the house into the garage? On the plans, how far into the garage do the steps extend? If the plans show fewer steps then, it is possible that your builder poured the garage slab too low in comparison to the house slab - which would make this his problem to fix. But, if the plans show steps extending 5 feet into the parking bay, then you would have known how much space you would have to park in if you had read the plans carefully enough. (It is easy to make such mistakes when you're a novice at reading house plans so I'm not trying to beat you up. Just telling you the facts.) If the mistake is yours, you're going to have to bear the cost of fixing the problem. You can't say that your builder should have known that the garage would be too small for two cars. Since cars come in all sorts of sizes, your builder can't really be held responsible for knowing what size your cars are. Much as you may want to blame him, that is counterproductive at this point. You need to focus NOW on finding a solution you can live with that costs as little as possible to implement. And, the quicker you figure out what your options are, the more of them you're likely to have because the longer you wait, the more "building" is going to be finished and the more it likely to cost to implement whatever solution you can find. Post your garage plans asap as well as some pictures of the garage so we can see what stage everything is at. I'll be very surprised if the folks on this board can't help you find a solution. But, try to get used to the idea that it is probably going to cost you some money to implement a fix. If you sweet-talk your builder instead of antagonizing him by blaming him for something that isn't his fault, he might cut you a good deal on whatever work needs to be done to make the garage useable for you. If he has built according to the plans and you've yelled at him when he wasn't at fault, he'll probably get even by jacking up the price of the labor to do whatever needs to be done to fix the problem. Again, I AM truly sorry you're having to deal with this issue and I do understand your frustration. I do hope you'll post your plans and let the GW community see if we can't help you find a reasonable solution. >>

I have the same issue and for a long time I could not figure out how the rain water is landing on top the car especially after I weather-stripped the top and sides of the door - until today when I just happened to open the garage door to clean the water mess on the car, the water came pouring through the sectionals of the door! Now it is simply not just the few drops of water that is the nuisance - if your car has some or lots of) dust the water drops create a messy look after the water drops on the car dry out - it looks really yucky on most cars and especially on a black car! If you want to go out and it is still raining, sure, the mess will be washed off but what if it is bone dry outside (sunny or not) - one is compelled to wash the mess off oneself or take the car to the car wash, unless one is ok with a messy looking car. This is quite annoying if this happens frequently as it does in the rainy season.
