Replacing a built-in refrigerator with a standard counter-depth optio?

We have a old built-in refrigerator (need To look up exactly how old) but the freezer has stopped working twice in a month. The first fix was a fan replacement- great, easy! TBD on what the next might be but I’m worried this fridge is nearing the end of its life and I don’t really want to spend 8-10k on a nee built-in fridge. Any thoughts on being able to replace with a standard counter-depth fridge and having someone frame it out and put cabinets on top??
