Need suggestions for non-slippery polished marble-like floor tile
Comments (11)Anna, I don't really think ANY of them are that bad, including real stone. I had a marble called pink argenta on my master bath floor when I had my house in Connecticut, and I wouldn't want to try running on it, but to walk across it, I never had any problems, nor did anyone else who used that bathroom. I don't think the Laufen is any more or less slippery than any other rectified polished porcelain. I just think that like myself, they don't see it as much of a problem as other companies might. Crossville's language might also be a legal disclaimer, much like McDonalds warning on the side of their coffee cups that contents are hot-- because some moron with no living brain cells won a law suit claiming they didn't realise......See MoreShower floor: what material is least slippery to use for it.
Comments (22)“Trendy” is a word that indicates that a style will rise in popularity quickly, over-saturate the market so that people tire of it, and disappear from popularity at a faster pace than a non-trendy item. Whether something is trendy versus classic versus simply part of the fashion cycle has nothing to do with the naturalness of its components. Something such a style of granite can be trendy, meaning that it will burn brightly, but quickly through showrooms, be purchased by many, many people and dominate the fashion so that people get sick of looking at it sooner than other fashion choices from the same era. Trendy items also tend to identify themselves with a smaller number of years. In refrigerators, for instance, harvest gold color was “so early seventies.” Some things start out as trends and become classic. Stainless steel refrigerators are now at that tipping point where they become another classic color, along with white. Almond is an example of a refrigerator color that did not ever trend big. It is often available, though, fifty years after its introduction. It may also be in danger of becoming classic, but it never has reached enough popularity to quite get there. It may yet (or could already have) fizzle out, but would we notice if it did?...See MoreIs a polished/shiny tile too slippery?
Comments (12)A disaster even in a master bath. The issue is the size of the tiles as well as the surface. As millworkman indicated, you would need to check the COF to determine traction. However, just glancing at the tiles makes me shudder. I rented a place which had large slick tiles and I felt that it was a dance with death whenever I took a shower or my feet were damp or there was any water on the floor. It was as slick as ice and dangerous. I have basketweave tiles now on floor and shower floor and I feel so secure as I can't skid even if I try....See Morecan you get polished porcelain tile for bathroom floor?
Comments (5)I have also been in high-end hotels where I took my life in my hands on their floors. Large tiles with a low coefficient of friction are dangerous. Coefficient of friction is a rating on tiles. Make sure to read up on this and look for it when shopping. You may need to go to manufacturer’s websites to get this rating. One way to get a shiny floor and good friction is to use small tiles. Grout breaks up the slip factor very well. That is why traditionally, bathroom floors used mosaic tiles....See Morekculbers
