White uppers and grey or blue/grey color for all lowers that compliments the granite maybe? The island needs some love maybe since there's no decorative panel on the ends.

Chuckling with a side of 'I empathize'. We're building a new home with a builder but we don't have packages; we can pick and choose standards or upgrades for each element. Your pallette is close to what I purposely chose (mine is warm) except my heartburn was they didn't offer a beige wall color, only grays. What builder in the right mind doesn't offer beige?! So I echo that with your situation- what builder would offer this palette without at least an option for a gray or white?!

I would hesitate to paint brand new cabinets. It will need to be professionally done with sanding and a coating especially for cabinets or you will be disappointed in the quality. I speak from experience. My husband and I did it ourselves. I was never really happy with how it lookedm but had to live with it for 6 years. I just paid ALOT to have it redone, and the pros said we did one of the best amateur jobs they had seen. But their work looks 10 times better than ours. Once you get some appropriate light in there, it won’t seem so dark. You can add color with accessories or paint on walls.

I had my cabinets professionally painted by a cabinet expert a few months ago and I already have a few chips. I would would design around the wood cabinets you have and live with them for a few years.

Em, I am sympathetic to your plight. However I'm going to 3rd the recommendation to not paint perfectly fine, brand new cabinets.

You're moving into a new house, and trust me, you will have a million unexpected expenses pop up. Save your money for those. Live with what you have for awhile.

In a few years, if you still want them painted....it may be a different color. And at least they'll be used at that point so if the finish isn't what you'd hoped for its not quite so heartbreaking.

There are about eleventy million threads on here of people who had their cabinets almost ruined by a bad paint job. I just wouldn't chance it on brand new cabinets.

Cabinets that dark unfortunately make it hard not to show some bleedthrough through the white paint. I say leave the cabinets as is, and get some really great lighting. If the package does not come with undercabinet lighting, add undercabinet lighting (and put it on dimmers).

I would leave the cabinets the way they are and move into the space - lighting and accessories will be your friend. It's a lovely kitchen. One thing I would do is change the outlet and cover on the end of the island to dark brown. It stands out like a sore thumb and does not have to be white. That would bother me everyday.

Another vote to leave the cabinets - everything looks fine together.

The one change I would make would be to bring a door into the paint store and paint the drywall part of the island the same color, so you don't have that stripe effect.

I also agree with seagrass about the outlet cover. This is a sharp one from rejuvenation, pricey, but worth it for as prominent as that one is. Maybe do that hall light switch at the same time.

I could live with the kitchen but not the pink shag rug. Agree that matching paint to your doors would be the best option for both the outlet cover and the front side of the island bar. I painted all my outlet covers black beause my walls were dark charcoal. They haven't chipped in 6 years.

I agree with the others that the cabinets look nice as is and I wouldn’t paint brand new.

However, if this is something you’re set on, no gray and no greige because of your flooring.

White, green or blue.

Also, you may want to look at buying new doors to have painted vs painting the existing.

I wouldn't do gray or off-white with the other colors you have, and especially not with that granite. White looks like it would be OK, but to be honest with you, white kitchens have had a very long run in the design world and are beginning to feel dated to some people. It's a volitile topic, because a lot of people will argue white kitchens will always be classic. I'm not even sure blue would work for you given the warm granite tones. If you wanted to wait five years until the current cabinets get some use, you could save up for a total renovation. The kitchen isn't so large that you couldn't just replace everything with factory-finished cabinets of your choice that come with a lifetime finish warranty and not be out more than $20K if you shopped around.
