GF cake is too dry. Any ideas for moistening it?

I made a gluten free/dairy free cake yesterday as an experiment. Although I followed the directions for timing, I probably overbaked it. It's got a really good flavor and the texture is fine -- not gritty the way many GF baked goods can get. But it's dense and dry.

Its a lemon cake. The directions called for letting the cake cool completely and then pouring over a lemon glaze. At the time, I wondered about poking holes and drizzling some of the glaze on it while it was warm but decided to follow the directions. Now I wish I had followed my instincts.

Do you think I could warm the cake and then do the hole poking thing after the fact? Making more lemon glaze would be easy enough. Or do you have any other ideas that might be helpful? Thanks!
