I think your home shows the hand of a skilled artist. I don't see anything wrong with any of the items you have listed. Your perspective is important. I don't think it's appropriate to compare your contemporary Dutch Gabled home to a French-style stucco home. Apples and Oranges.

This is a Dutch Gable roof which is also similar to a Dickey roof

The split face stone looks like it was selected to highlight the front entrance. The smooth stone used to accommodate the installation of the lanterns. Changing a $$$ exterior facing to a less expensive stucco doesn't compute in my book.

Adding some extensive landscaping could only enhance the good looks of your home. Don't s___w it up.

I agree with Beverly. You need lots of landscaping and planters. Maybe some front porch furniture. ( picturing black and white striped pattern...)

Boy, I really agree with @BeverlyFLADeziner - your home is lovely as is. Leave it and ramp up your landscape appeal! Even if you made the changes you’re pondering, you’d still need to add the landscape touch to pretty up your curb appeal so my vote is to ramp up landscape- most bang for your buck, @Celery. Visualization, Rendering images lovely picture she painted for you proves that.

Beverly, thanks much for helping with the roofline ID. This is not a common roofline in our area (at least that I have observed) and the front is not original to the home so I felt like it kind of looked “off.” I’ve included a photo of the home before it was “flipped” in 2017. You can see that the original peak is what they left peeking out from the addition/porch.
One issue is my husband hates the rough cut limestone. He is fine with spending the money to remove the rough cut and replacing with smooth limestone like the pillars have (rather than stucco). We have a good mason who can do the work.
Celery, I love the ideas of the landscaping and adding something sculptural. We actually have a beautiful stone bench in our current back yard that could work for something like that and I hadn’t thought about the idea of putting it in the front!
Also love black and white stripes and adding furniture to the front porch, definitely something I plan to do once we move in.

OMGoodness you aren't even moved in yet!! Get moved in and then wait. All kinds of things that didn't bother before will make themselves known and stuff that you don't like now may grow on you.

There may be other ways to address the split face stone.

We are in Austin. We just sold our adorable little Tudor storybook cottage that we turned into such an appealing home (the original bones helped!!). We have two babies so needed more space.
I love the pics you shared Beverly and this actually came to mind as an option as well. Would you leave the roof existing or what are your thoughts on a cement tile or metal?
We definitely have some other projects (like furnishing 🤪) before we fully tackle exterior. Just planning ahead! We also want to put a front wall around the yard to keep our littles contained and cut down on noise. It’s on a historic but highly trafficked residential street.

Rachel, yep I agree that either a cement tile or metal roof might look better on your home.

I might be really daring and suggest you consider a corrugated roof now that I know you are in Texas. This is the only home where I have seen it used, but I love the simple appearance.

Although my personal preference would likely be for more symmetry with regard to the plantings of shrubs, etc., closest to the house, you have a really nice house and yard and every reason to be proud of it.

Something to consider might be to move the rows of plants now set along the foundation/exterior wall of the home, especially those that are different plants in the same row or the same plants but different heights, into the yard into groupings of similar plants where they get the amount of sunlight they need. Certainly would not sweat over that, though, as long as you like the plants you have where they are.

In that first pic there is a retaining wall near the porch. If you cleared all the plants from in between the wall and porch, you could create a tiny patio for two seats and a table there, accessible only from the porch, by using plants to create a (waist high) green fence around it -- then you could add potted plants that can give you greenery and blooms during the season(s) when you would be using the patio most. You could use pavers with grass growing in between the pavers or all around a square or round or rectangle shaped "floor".

You could even enhance the retaining wall to have it double as seating for your mini-patio.

Beverly, thank you! I had just been looking at corrugated metal because I think that May be what Amber Lewis used on her home and it is kind of inspiring some of my ideas right now. I am thinking of doing a drive way gate with similar wood.
