Idyll #315-Spring=Renewal & Healing
Comments (102)Summer is here! It was down right hot the last 2 days. I'm shot but survived yesterday. We had about the number of people that we hoped for and made about 1/3 more in donations than what I had for a goal. So all was a success. I will post a few pictures after I upload them. I tried once and got some weird error message that the picture couldn't be copied to my computer. I gave up. We had a busy "family" day today and so the weekend is over. I did get in about 4 hours on Friday and about 5 hours of gardening on Sat. so all wasn't lost. So much to comment on that I won't attempt it tonight. I did think of this email I got recently when I read about Chelone's mum. Sorry things aren't up to snuff. No Nursing Homes for Us No nursing home for us. We are checking into the Holiday Inn! With the average cost for a nursing home care costing $188.00 per day, there is a better way when we get old & feeble. We have already checked on reservations at the Holiday Inn. For a combined long term stay discount and senior discount, it's $49.23 per night. That leaves $138.77 a day for: breakfast, lunch and dinner in any restaurant we want, or room service. Laundry, gratuities and special TV movies. Plus, they provide a swimming pool, a workout room, a lounge and washer-dryer, etc. Most have free toothpaste and razors, and all have free shampoo and soap. $5 worth of tips a day will have the entire staff scrambling to help you. They treat you like a customer, not a patient. There is a city bus stop out front, and seniors ride free. The handicap bus will also pick you up (if you fake a decent limp). To meet other nice people, call a church bus on Sundays. For a change of scenery, take the airport shuttle bus and eat at one of the nice restaurants there. While you're at the airport, fly somewhere. Otherwise, the cash keeps building up. It takes months to get into decent nursing homes. Holiday Inn will take your reservation today. And you are not stuck in one place forever, you can move from Inn to Inn, or even from city to city. Want to see Hawaii? They have a Holiday Inn there too. TV broken? Light bulbs need changing? Need a mattress replaced? No problem. They fix everything, and apologize for the inconvenience. The Inn has a night security person and daily room service. The maid checks to see if you are ok. If not, they will call the undertaker or an ambulance. If you fall and break a hip, Medicare will pay for the hip, and Holiday Inn will upgrade you to a suite for the rest of your life. And no worries about visits from family. They will always be glad to find you, and probably check in for a few days mini-vacation. The grand kids can use the pool. What more can you ask for? So, when we reach that golden age, we'll face it with a grin. Just forward all our email to: us@Holiday.Inn Night all Michelle...See MoreIs there a rule of thumb regarding end table height?
Comments (32)Meg...we need to talk about the color of your walls. On my screen they're a lovely olivy green tone. I don't know the brand...can you share the brand name and also the actual tone (since the name is gray something) what are they really? I'm desperately looking for the right green for my master suite to suit while we wait to wallpaper and want a deep olive green tone that makes wood sing...your wood is singing against the walls to me but perhaps it's more gray....clue me in :) now as to those panties..umm I mean bedside tables. In most of my bedrooms (when we bought the house it had ten) we had tables as bedside "nightstands". Mostly victorian oak. I've replaced those in the rooms we live in with side tables that suit the use of the rooms, but since all of our bedrooms have victorian beds (higher than older modern beds) the table height seems to work. In our rooms we have taller side tables (ie the old toilet table for me and I'm spying a lovely french lingerie cabinet for DH's side right now). Mom's room has a table but I'm going to give her a second one with a few antique chocolate boxes on top to hide the clutter she might need (lynne could trade bedside tables with me tomorrow and be happy..chapstick, coughdrops cuz I'm sick) kleenex and a few mags and a book or two). Next to my bedside table I have an antique slipper box (by the fireplace) that i hide my little laptop in when I go to bed. Lynn was right...you need to suit your needs to get the right table. DH uses a plant stand (larger victorian thing) which holds his mags and the window sill for his evening toddy :) Me...I need hiding for the "stuff" I like by the bed. DS likes to have a few cars and trains near his bed as well as binkies and a bottle, all of which are accounted for next to his bed. In my alaska home i have used a large iron planter with a round marble top on as a bed stand. An antique sewing machine is FAB as a bedside table (and the right size for your bed). chests or antique luggage stacked or on it's side works well. Antique wash stands, marble top, doors or drawers work well. Just measure the height and let your mind wander through the possabilities without thinking "bedside" table. DH is going to have desk aside his bed in alaska soon. DS is going to have one on his bedside here soon. Both suite our uses of the room and their uses of the space :) I adore your bed...and want to hit you for buying it at that price LOL I will say that in the past I've done the skirted table thing in a bedroom and don't like it for practicle reasons. Lovely, gorgeous really to look at...but my cat often wanders there (knocks down the water bottle Lynn left) and leaves fur, and plays with my chapstick, ds squeezes out the foot cream....well you get the picture...it really does not suit my bedside life...and no where for the undies....the chocolate ones can't deal with the sunlight.... MOM I"M KIDDING!!! (my mom reads these threads on occasion and I don't want her to lose her dinner). I'm still a virgin mom....ummmmm virgin decorator..wine drinker....ummmm skier!!!! Ya I've never gone down the slopes mom!!! Really!! (Ok that one time I was drunk) :oP...See MoreHow can I make blowup mattresses more appealing for grandchildren's vi
Comments (13)I think I am pretty qualified to write on this subject right now. Because of remodeling woes (don't ask) my husband and I have been sleeping on these (in the dining room) for the past 2.5 months. I bought a cheap $15 foam topper for each cot, and they are remarkably comfortable. We don't have the cots bunked but plan to do that for the grandkids because we really bought these for visits from the grandkids. We think they will really like the fact that these are bunk beds and the fact that they have the nice storage pockets along the sides where they can stash all of their stuff. We paid a lot less than this last fall when Costco had them on sale. https://www.costco.com/disc-o-bed-xl-portable-cot-bundle.product.100237869.html They fold up into a storage bag, and I don't think they would take up all that much more room than an air bed. This XL size is really nice and comfortable too....See Moreupdate on mattress woes...
Comments (10)New mattress selected. What a stressful process. It's so hard to tell what is going to work for you or not. I don't have a delivery date yet though. Pandemic slowing everything down it seems. I had it down to a couple mattresses but during the trying out process...just feeling so overwhelmed I jumped up on a mattress that I would never even look at, as it was out of my price range...and asked "what makes this a $5000. mattress" (non-sale price) so she was explaining about the mattress and I was surprised by how comfortable it was considering it was a medium firm and I was trying plush mattresses. So I moved on from there. I was back in yesterday to make my final selection since it was the last day of the sale and was between a couple mattresses and got back on that dang expensive one. After comparing and comparing I decided to go with the expensive one. Certainly wasn't $5000. but even the sale price it was more than I was wanting to spend. But I think I made a good choice. I did go back up to a queen sized bed. Feel good about that choice also. I ordered a new mattress cover in a queen. Same as my full mattress cover I currently have. I can still use the full mattress cover for DD's bed. I know the new mattress won't feel like the one at the store, I'm expecting it to be firmer till it breaks in so I'm keeping that in the back of my head. Hopefully I won't have to wait too long for the new one. Of course I totally despise my current mattress with the big dip even more now that I know I'm getting a new mattress. LOL...See MoreMSRED Byrd
