I would try the TV on a higher console in the alcove next to the FP then sofa can to placed in front of windows facing TV and FP. 2 swivel chairs where the blue love seat is now

I think I’d put the tv above the FP. Maybe add a sectional in place of the couch. On the window wall. Facing where the “tv is now” I’d maybe change out the light to a chandelier or hanging wagon style light or something.
And then where the blue leather couch is now you can have a chair or two.
Eventually I’d do built ins in that little nook area. Maybe a desk space for kids homework. Or maybe a little bench seat for reading.

First item would be to balance the fireplace by filing in alcove and adding the tv. Consider painting the mantle for a fresher look and lower art. Your room will be transformed and allow for an optimal layout.

If willing to purchase new furniture, a sectional, or couch/two chairs, will provide more seating which is needed. A coffee table will be handy and also create balance.

In regards to decor, I’d go a cream, rust and blue combo in some form for seating and accents. Be sure to take into consideration room’s dimensions and buy appropriately sized furniture.

Where tv was, place your console on back wall with a lamp and a large piece of art (with some blue in it). Skip the bookcases no matter what you decide to do.

With the existing furniture I would:

1.place tv on the console table

2.swap places for couch and chair

3.put the ottoman as a side table between chair and couch

4.place existing side table where the round stool is and place the blue table lamp on top of it

5.place the 2 tall shelves centered on the wall they are now

6.use the current tv bench as a coffee table

7.place floor lamp in the corner between the right side of the couch and the shelf

Alternately with new furniture I would get rid of the shelves and tv bench, place the console table on the far wall, build a shelf inside the wall nook for tv, get a new sectional in place of chair and couch and use the ottoman as coffee table

That alcove next to the fireplace is made for a TV. It puts it at the right viewing height, tucks it out of view, and gives you one focal wall to center your furniture toward. Place a long sofa across from the fireplace/TV wall, and float a chair where you currently have your sofa.

Guys, amazing suggestions! Thank you so much! I was initially hoping to have the flexibility to get a bigger TV, which gets limited by that alcove, but you make a great point about that being a focal point.

In general is it bad to have windows directly across where the TV is, because of glare?

And @Jess O not looking to do something major right now, just furniture rearrangement, or even get some new pieces to fit the space out. We don’t use the fireplace actively.

Omg HU-187528210, I was thinking about that TV above the Fireplace too! I just wasn’t sure how we would work that big empty wall. but I love that suggestion for a sectional. Omg yes, a built in is a great idea! I’ve seen those done in this space. Looks amazing. Can you elaborate on the bench seat idea? Like built in bench seat with pillows or?

@Maureen amazing pictures! I can finally start to see some solutions! Thank you so much! I’ll post pictures once I change this around. I have to keep the area relatively open for our young kids to play and run around but your couch layout is brilliant! Really using that wall next to the fireplace for a nice 2-chair sitting spot I think will work great! You’re so right about the bookcases. They’ll be gone.

A larger glare free TV may work out for you.

Another idea is to put you tv over the fireplace and put a corner sectional against the right hand wall. Then one or two club chairs in the room. Plenty of seating and some can even nestle in the corner but it’s all open to the entry and inviting.

I think your furniture is good and the placement is also good for the way you are using the space.

A white, streamlined fan would update + open up your room. The fan would blend into the ceiling.

For the larger tv, I suggest a long, low console, versus the shelves.

And I would just cover the alcove with a divider screen.
