Landscape Design Paint Design Dilemma

brown garage door on White House?

Help! We just redid the stucco on our house to a white Santa Barbara finish. We painted the eaves white and now I am thinking the garage door should be brown to match the roof. I’m also showing the front door so you can see that. We still need our hardscape / landscape done obviously - but one thing at a time. Help on garage door color??

Keeping the garage door the same/similar colour as the body of the house, means all attention is focused upon the front door.

Making the very large garage door a high contrast colour, will draw all eyes toward it - and so away from the front door.

I think having the garage the same color as the front door/roof would add some interest to that side of the house. Right now it looks like a lot of white.

This is the best I can do on pictures, it is a dark and rainy day. The stains on the roof will be power washed off soon. I have ordered white window boxes for the two windows on the right. I would like to brighten up the doors/shutters, as the house across the street has this same color palette.

The current color of your garage door is perfect. White will stand out too much....not in a good way. I know you did not ask, but you might consider replacing your front door, too. The faux Victorian look does not work unless it is on a Victorian house....IMO.

Oh, I agree...no fun to make decisions under pressure, but it feels like thats been the story of this build...Ive learned so much and it feels like 80% has been under a deadline...so am considering trying to figure out the paint stuff tomorrow-or at least take a guess...the walls are so small it wouldnt take much to repaint if needed-Thanks so much for the suggestions of those colors...I just looked them up--I really like both of them. They do look clean/fresh. The laundry room will basically be filled up with the rustic hickory cabinets (lowers along the sink wall- a silgranite sink (blanco laundry sink) which I'll need to choose a color for as well---thinking something of a medium to darker shade just b/c it will be easier to keep clean), & then upper cabinets on the washer/dryer wall) with a quartz countertop (doing granite in kitchen, but figure quartz will be easier to maintain in laundry room)-color tbd...that will take up the log/sink wall and the right/garage door wall....the opposite 'longer' wall we are planning to build a bench/cubbies 'mud room' type piece that will run along that wall...perhaps paint/stain that. There will be a light (pendant or semi flushmount) over the sink, and a flushmount mid room in front of the washer/dryer-oil rubbed bronze and frosted glass. I was also thinking about putting some simple, maybe live edge shelves to the left and right of the window, or maybe those could have some color too. We're doing most of the finish work ourselves & are both working full time--nothings been ideal about this build & I know I should have these things picked out by now- this is my first house I've even owned (I've always rented & have moved A LOT-so maybe have painted a wall or two, but never had the opportunity to design/paint/etc anything from scratch...its a gift, a challenge, and outside my comfort zone all at the same time. :)

What trim/garage/door colors for deep red house?

Our house is currently red. White is a fairly traditional, even "country" trim idea, in my opinion, but one that always works with a red body. But I think your house could look very sharp with dark gray, even black. Notice the second house used two gray tones and the first painted their fascia black. A dark green would also work, but pulls a bit more mountain home, which might suit your apparently wooded setting.

I would not paint it brown. Your front looks so nice and fresh and clean now. If you add brown I think it will make it look blah. Once you get your plantings in and some color there with flowers and hardscape, I do not think you will need color on the garage door? I agree with above that painting garage door will draw attention away from front door.

I agree with Marylee. A contrasting color will pull more focus to the garage door since it's right up front. Whatever you decide, a garage door with windows across the top would add interest and help break up the "wall." I would prefer more focus at the front door/entry area.

You type “@“ and then start to type the name. It should pop up in a drop down menu sort of. Then click on the name it will make it an official tag

Kelli, I'm not sure about replacing just the top panel on yours, but it would be worth checking. Also, once you get the window panels, they can be changed out for different designs. I really think window's would be a nice update for yours.

So great! Thank you all. I think I’ll wait to get the landscape done and then decide officially. I like the idea of a wood door, windows and I like the golden oak. Also we might have to replace our roof by the end of the year which would give more options.

Add lanterns on either side of the garage door. FYI the fake wood garage doors look really...fake.

@lkloes lanterns are on their way! Should be here next week. And yes I agree with you. I really want real wood but also scared of 1) the cost and 2) the maintenance. Will put lanterns, landscape and then make final decisions on the garage. Thanks for the comment. :)

Have you considered doing the roof before the landscaping? Roofing is a mess! Could be rough for new plantings??
