Styling around Beige/almond Bathroom Decor

Houzz newbie here! We just moved into a new home. The seller painted every single wall in the house the same grey, but this bathroom is perplexing. I feel like the countertops and tub and shower (which have the same surface) are a bit dated, but we don’t really have the money to replace them right now. I think they look even worse with the grey paint, thought.

How can I dress up this bathroom to complement the countertop and floor (the floor is a solid tile that matches the counter exactly)? I need a window covering immediately for privacy. What color of covering? I’m leaning toward a roller blind for simplicity, but I’m open to other options. What about the shower curtain? And what accents, on the wall or counter, could tie it all together so that it looks on purpose?

I’d also love paint color suggestions, because painting the walls and possibly cabinets will be an option long before replacing the vanity and shower would be.

In general, my style is clean, airy, and soft. Not modern. Not obviously farmhouse, but with that feel. I tend toward solids with texture because they are classic and safe, but the right pattern can totally win me over. Thanks so much!

Strat be getting some new lighting in LEDs 4000K so that at least the colors then are true. I agree the gray does not work there but what colors do you like . Is this a master bath ? A bit more info as to your colors and style are always helpful. You could start by finding so window film to apply to the window that will give you privacy but not another item to deal with right now.

Thanks, I had thought about a window film. For wall or cabinet colors, I have no preference other than complementing the current colors. I just am not sure how to find what colors will do that. For accents, I like blues, natural textures and colors (like wood or woven products), but honestly, pinks or yellows or greens would be nice, too. I’m not picky! I prefer subtle over bold and striking. I do like white a lot, but I’m not sure it would go well in this room. This is the master bath, but it is also the only main floor bathroom and has both a bedroom and a hallway entrance.

I think you need to ask yourself a couple of questions, to answer your question. Do you like the color? Yes, then go for it. Will you be selling the home soon? If so, I'd say no, as others may see it as dated. But, if you plan on staying in the house for a while, then go for it. You have to live in it, you should like what you see. I am installing brass fixtures in my basement bath- brass was common to the era of my home. Some think it's out of style, but it works for me and my home's style. I started buying fixtures 3 years ago, and won't be installing them until next year, and guess what- brass is coming back into favor again! Who knows, almond may come back in style too.

I agree with justerrilynn about the wall color The previous owner picked the wrong shade..a cooler lilac. Throws everything off. Warm cream, slightly peach-y undertone will make this mistake go away. Bonus: we people tend to look good when surrounded by these types of colors..:) We don't always like them, but oh boy, do they love us:) Now. I realized when people say "modern" they often mean different things when you say "modern" you mean "modern" as in style (cleaner lines, colors either more muted or more bright but with a lot of presence so to say..florals -if one loves florals-tend to be big, love for geometry..lots of natural materials but also not shying away from plastic etc)..or do you mean "modern" as in "more updated"? Because for example light fixtures-what you choose will depend on it. Oh you can mix and match these of course-but if you like more modern as in modern, you need to take it there ever so slightly with light fixtures since the bath is not modern in its nature. Mirrors-if you decide to go for different ones-will depend on it. Accessories..you're freer there..as well as with art..you can be reserved in both, in some as justerilynn suggests, or go to town so to say, when you figure out what speaks to you of course. I'm personally fine with the vanity and countertop..these are also bigger items so to say in terms of budget so will depend on how far you're willing to take it. Then you'll see how you'll want new sinks..:) and then you might like less your tub surround..in short won't stop there If you want to keep it simpler I'd choose a) paint b) lights c) new faucets? and maybe adding handles of your preferred style to the vanity? d) accessories(towels, storage thingies etc) and art-never underestimate art..it has the ability to transport you places like very few things do Ah, and I wouldn't be true to myself if I didn't say "and a plant", lol If you want a bigger change-then I'd look into changing the countertop etc knowing that's the "creeping elegance" waits to jump on you ..like a puma hiding in a tree..:) Unless you really hate the vanity Otherwise I'd let it be, make small changes, work around it

Super important feedback about the Marfil vs Ironsbridge. I needed to hear that and now getting excited about the room. As far as ceiling, I am not familiar with a coffered ceiling. Do you mean, the walnut porcelain planks would go on the ceiling too?? Sorry to be so clueless about this. i like the idea of pulling in a bit of the wood tone. Maybe use a framed mirror instead of the unframed? It’s kind of you to work this out with me.

I have a big (grey) Kohler jacuzzi tub that was here when I bought the place. According to my plumber, it's from the late 80's/early 90's. It worked fine until it started leaking down to the floor below. I called my plumber who told me that even if he could find the parts to repair it -which he can't - it would be an expensive repair and not worth the $. This was told to me by someone who stood to make money off the deal. It's what pushed me into a gut/remodel.

Fundamentally I want a bathroom to be totally functional, safe (no slip, good middle-of-the night lighting), and easy to clean, with towels that are super absorbent and easy to keep looking nice. If I rented a living space with that bathroom, I would get burgundy colored accessories

I would proably look for a set of wood framed prints to hang over the toilet and make your towel and shower curtain selections in reference to the art. An off white or light cream paint would make a simple backdrop for your countertops and cabinets as they are. Changing out the light fixture and cabinet hardware would freshen the space as well.

I would not put 4000 LEDs in a bathroom.

I would concentrate on paint, new fixtures if possible (such as antique brass), paint vanity a warm white, accessories after you change the paint color.

For your window, I’d get a roller blind temporarily for privacy, then revisit something dressier later, after you get other things changed. You could do a Roman shade, for example—

These are great ideas! I love the idea of the wood framed prints! The paint color suggestions are also super helpful. That bathroom is gorgeous! Thank you for the link! I really like the idea of painting the cabinets that lighter color.

If your flooring grout is actually not that dark color I found an easy way to clean it and get it back to being light again. I take Clorox all purpose cleaner with bleach and spray a small section of grout at a time. You don't want to do a large section because of the fumes. Let it sit a few minutes, take a brush and scrub the tile. I have a bucket of water nearby so I can wipe it up after I'm done scrubbing.

I think if you paint the vanity white to match the trim work, the gray and tan would look great together. Look for a shower curtain with gray, white and tan, or in this case, just gray and white.

Just a note to say that if you decide to paint bathroom cabinetry yourself it is worth investing the time and extra bit of $ to learn how to prepare the vanity before you put on the final coats of color you want, and to choose the right kind of paint for a bathroom vanity. Even if you hire others to do it, double check they are going to do more than just slap paint on.
