Your kitchen is beautiful! I love the mix of white and wood cabinets with the Hanstone quartz. Thank you so much for the photos! I used this quartz in my bathrooms and this is similar to what I’m planning to do with my kitchen next. I see you continued the quartz in the backsplash behind the stove. What did you use for the backsplash behind the sink and desk? Also, what have you found to work best for maintaining the quartz? I’m a little afraid of mine given the warnings they gave me about heat damaging it. I’ve also noticed that I need to wipe off water spots. Thank you!

I ended up getting a chip in my quartz countertop (Misterio) within a month of having it. It was right on the inside edge in front of the sink. I have no idea how it happened but I must have bumped a pan against the squared edge. Normal wear and tear like this is not covered under their warranty. I do not want to scare you from this quartz - I believe it can happen to any quartz esp with the more squared edge. Perhaps a more rounded edge might be safer. The countertop restoration contractor that filled my chip ($200 for a small chip restoration) said he sees this a lot with quartz (and with granite to be fair). He didn't feel the quartz companies should say they are chip resistant b/c clearly they are not. As for staining it is doing really well. One thing that I found that can stain is the date stamp on packaged meats. Don't set packaged meats with a date stamp directly on the counter! They must use a permanent ink for that.

@Katie B. I agree, and anything is better than the previous year-plus of appliances living everywhere there's no construction. It's all lessons learned :) The square footage is roughly 2900 sq. feet. There is an attic that goes up another 15' or so above the plaster ceiling. The basement is like a dungeon and was walled off in the 50s where the furnace/boiler used to be. I've been wanting to try to access that side, but that would open another can of worms... Not sure regarding the fireplace. Originally, I think there may have been some sort of iron stove as there is no permanent hearth. It's been sealed forever and it has a twin fireplace on the opposite side of the laundry. That room is the same footprint as the kitchen. It's a stair hall that leads upstairs. A new hearth and a chimney professional would have to take a look at it. The chimneys are massive brick lined/cut marble clad, and are very tall. The roof is very steep, original slate.

Whoa, that’s horrible @Chritstine Hollern. I so sad and sorry to hear this. I wonder if there’s a company that can repair the chips. I had read negative comments on here about MSI, so that’s why I went with Hanstone. Also, our contractor has Montauk in his office/show room. So that’s what I went with but there was a lot of beautiful MSI colors and so many options. Maybe go back to the place you got the countertop from with pics? I think there’s a warranty with MSI.
