Honestly, this looks good and nicely balanced to me! But just throwing a few things out there... I wonder if the room might feel a bit more spacious if the shower and bath were in the inverse positions. Visually, when you walk into the room, you see more wall space opposite, which suggests space...? Another advantage of this is that you could a large window at the end of the bath, which would add light... I don't know your aspect, but I would be a teeny bit concerned that the room might be a bit dark as drawn? One disadvantage would be that you would be able to see the toilet from the bath (a bug bear of mine!). I'm not sure how you feel about this, but could you encroach a bit on the WIC and push the toilet back in there, and hide it away behind a door and add a small window to bring light? Another alternative (assuming that you don't mind losing a bit of space would be to swap the positions of the toilet and vanity ... steal a bit of the WIC for a toilet stall and put a door on it! Looks like you would have to move the WIC door to the left a bit... But as I said, it looks good the way you have it!!! Good luck with your project! All the best Ruth

Thanks Pal, I thought about the rotation, didn't draw it out though. I wondered if it would be too intrusive to walk into the room because it would line up with the entry. I didn't want to build a wall for the alcove tub either. I could try drawing this up tomorrow. A free standing bath would be beautiful. But I am concerned about user friendliness, both the very young and me, getting into the older age range. I originally thought about taking the tub out totally and putting in a shower, but those darned kids have fond memories of taking summer tub baths after a long day of dirty play! Then there is the occasional large dog bath. I even considered putting a cast iron laundry sink in this room instead of a BR cabinet with counter. But I want the room to have more of a bath look instead of a utility room look. It is the restroom that everyone uses first on this working farm. My kitchen, just redone, is next to this BR so I wanted the BR to reflect some of the character of the kitchen. For example, I have plans for the casing to be changed to match the new casing in the kitchen. The BR cabinet I thought would look nice on the opposite wall than the kitchen cabinet. They are within 6 or 7' of each other. I thought it would be a nice visual mirroring effect. As you stand at the sink you look to your Rt and behind, there through, the door would be the BR cabinet, in a painted version of the kitchen cabinet. Don't tell Marcolo but I think this bath is turning out in my minds eye to be the OTBR (for those not in the know, that would be the BR equivalent to One True Kitchen :) Thanks again Pal for stimulating the process of design!

I prefer Mark’s design for one big reason that he mentioned, but did not elaborate: security. Your design allows people into your entire home. His has the lake bathroom completely separate from the rest of the home. Unless you own the entire lake and the only access road, it is so much more secure! With his design you can leave the outdoors bath unlocked (except when in use). Your design means having to run back to the bathroom to make sure it is locked anytime you leave the house - and unlocking it when you get back home. As you have other lake access doors, you can easily forget to unlock the bathroom! Secondly, his design gets rid of the extra depth of an unusable walk-in closet. Unusable? Yes, look at the size of your version. Note that you can only hang clothes in one direction at the corner. If you hang clothes the full length of the back wall, it makes the little 2 ft “L” hanging space pretty much unusable. Therefore, you have just as much “closet” and a smaller footprint with a reach-in closet.

Always good to see what others have done in similar situations. Take a look at these and see if one of them could be used as a reference when you speak to the next glass guy. BTW IMO your design looks a bit overly complicated. Either go to the ceiling or don't and consider using the minimal frame support to securely anchor the panels and the door. I'd rather see the minimal frame that 20 supports.
