BigDogue -- Thank you so much for the tip about the black poly pipe. I have some of it lying around, so I can try this now. I'll describe the problem a little more clearly below and will really appreciate any other input or suggestions you have. bmoser -- I looked up wire-lock systems, and they seem perfect for securing plastic sheeting to a wood or metal pipe base, but this is a temporary structure that I only need for this winter. This property is being sold and the new owners are allowing me the space for this greenhouse until I established at a permanent location for my rapidly growing (but still in start-up) rare plants business. The sale of the property, including the good greenhouses I've been using, was unexpected, so I am scrambling to save my plants. For now, I have driven 6' rebar a foot or more into the ground, spaced 4' apart, and slid sun-resistant pvc conduit over the rebar to make the arches. There is one central purlin. There isn't time (with the first freezes setting in) to build wooden ends, so those are also stretched plastic. I have bought 6 mil. plastic sheeting in 10'x 25' rolls. The arches are exactly 25', so there is no extra for burying. I'm thinking I'll staple the bottom to scrap lumber with batting strips. HERE'S MY REAL PROBLEM: (1) I need to secure sheeting to the ends (which, in this location will have to take a good bit of wind). I will try the black poly pipe clips BD suggested, and I'm open to other ideas. (2) Then I need to secure the first sheet to the end arch. Again, the black poly pipe might work. (3) I need to connect the successive plastic sheets together over the arches every 10 feet. I donÂt see how the poly pipe clips would work here. Right now, all I can come up with is pulling the overlaping sheets together on the inside, folding it over and stapling it in a fold of denser plastic (milk carton) as batting. (4) IÂm not sure how IÂll manage an entrance on the other end  maybe just overlapping flaps. (5) For heat, I have a 2 tall, forced-air, electric heater and a portable, electric, oil-filled radiator. I can put a box fan behind the radiator to circulate the heated air. IÂm concerned that plain radiant heat would go straight up and dissipate through the cold plastic. Any input on these ideas? IÂm putting down black ground cloth, which might help keep the ground warm. Is it better to put plants directly on the ground, so theyÂd get ground warmth, or to put them on pallets and benches to benefit from warmer air circulating above the ground? IÂll be grateful for any helpful ideas.

Or, you could nuke it with high nitrogen fertilizer now, and possibly recover a crop for this year from your sad-looking plants. Don't overdo, but you might consider some soluble plant food (eg Miracle Gro) with a high N number, and if that seems to help, maybe combine it with a top dressing of high-N lawn fertilizer that would release over several days or weeks. I have similar conditions in my 20-year old garden, and I'm wondering if my history of avoiding fertilizer plus slacking off on compost additions the last few years has caused the same kind of effect. The wife fertilized the rhubarb plants this spring and they turned very green and really went to town, so that reinforces the idea.

The benefit of the peninsula is to be able to prep without having my back to whoever may be sitting at the breakfast bar or in dining room but the U-shape is certainly more open and has better flow. I would LOVE to flip the frige drawers and sink but that stupid bit of wall that sticks out can't be removed and it's 10" deep on the side next to the window. So, the drawers would stick out 10". I thought about making the counters deeper there, but I'm too short to reach the end wall cabinets if I do that. What if I put the refrigerator drawers next to the sink (where that shallow cabinet is) and pull the whole run out to be even with the bump out. That would also bring the breakfast bar a bit more into the kitchen. I agree that the baking counter is FAR from the ovens, but I use that low counter for so many things when I cook, mostly any kind of mixing or stirring so I need it closer to where the action is. I like the idea of a landing place between the fridge and ovens. Here's the plans with the changes.

A few things jump out to this layperson: Your butlers pantry is off your toilet area. ? I'd drop the tiny double doors into the master and the bath and replace them with a single, solid core door. Those little double doors are a nuisance. I'd also suggest staightening out the double vanities in the master bath. At that angle you are going to be on top of each other. Why not straighten it and make the closet less angled? Your bathroom would feel larger, too. I'd make those two little closests off the laundry room one big, double closet. By my count you have only two single closests for coats. That is not much. What about double windows instead of single windows off the study and the dining room? That isn't much light.
