You know you have cabin fever when...
Comments (17)I haven't been able to get my leaves mulched and on the garden either LKZZ, too cold and too wet. Thursday I found some small, almost mummified, red potatoes sprouting in the cabinet that i forgot about. I went out to the shed and potted them up in a 2 gallon container, knowing that they won't make it. But I need something growing! I'm a little excited though, they have came up already and are starting to put on leaves! If I can keep them alive for about 3 months I'll try transplanting them. I'm ready for spring!...See MoreWANTED: Anyone getting a 'spring fever' for trading?

What will you grow new this year?
Comments (10)We're getting serious spring fever and are doing our garden planning now. We just placed our massive seed orders for the six raised beds OH built last summer, and there's lots of new stuff. Got three kinds of kale, three kinds of beets, gailan, melons, sugar snap peas, snow peas, bush beans, zucchini, scallions, spinach, three kinds of lettuce, hot peppers, sweet peppers, three kinds of carrots, arugula, cucumbers, Thai, holy, and Genoese basil, cilantro, parsley, thyme, lemongrass, sage, and marsh mallow, because a friend saw it in the Baker Creek catalog and wants us to try making our own marshmallows now. The big project this year is rebuilding the deck that is behind the garage. The previous owners had a massive climbing rose on it that recently died. This was not heartbreaking to me, as I don't understand why you'd want a plant that tries to hurt everyone sitting on your deck. So now we're planning a wall of clematis to cover the garage and make the deck pretty. Thinking Clematis Huldine and Etoile Violet, both of which would be new to me. Is it spring yet?...See MoreLet's post outdoor pics. I have Spring Fever!
Comments (78)KitchenKelly, have you seen the WinterSowing forum here on GW? Its a fun way to garden through the winter (although mine is short in GA!). I only found it this winter so i am not an expert but their FAQ page is very informative and the people on that forum are really nice and helpful. Basically, you sow seeds (they have long lists of seeds that are suitable for wintersowing) and leave them outside (covered) in the depth of winter, and they germinate nice and early and with a really good rate. There are amazing photos over there of whole flower beds that have come from wintersown seeds. I have several pots of perennial seedlings ready to plant out! I used to live in Rochester MN. I really miss how beautiful MN is in the winter. Although i do remember tiring of it by March! Hope spring comes soon for you :) Here is a link that might be useful: wintersowing FAQs...See MoreTina Marie
