For me personally the white wouldn’t do it. But that’s my style. What’s yours? What look are you after? Of what you show I’d go with the darker brown. (Picture of which one below)
But I think I’d go even warmer/ less marks... something more solid in color.

Why not refinish you current oak flooring? The current needs to be removed before you can install any type of vinyl plank.

No white please- wood has to be very beautifully refinished to appear white, and applied in certain houses only as not to look like a fad which it currently is.

Also-if we leave that issue aside-it won't work with your current cabinetry, not in terms of color that much, and even less, in terms of style. It looks too relaxed next to more traditional cherry and granite and backsplash.

I, too, much prefer your current oak and would rather refinish it..the thing is, if you need to lay down new flooring in living only, you need to get another oak, matching planks, for it to work best, so both can be site re/finished at the same time. I've no idea how much more of an expense it might be. Flooring pros or folks who went through such reno themselves will weigh on it hopefully.

But what you have now is classic..in terms of colors, I'd do something more neutral brown next to reddish cherry, if cherry is about to stay. Not too yellow, not too gray..it can be light brown. Not too much movement in it given the rest of woods(love your door to the backyard)

Maybe your consideration is: you don't want wood in the kitchen, hence vinyl? Please tell us so we can understand better, thus hopefully give more considerate advice.

Do you plan to change something else, besides flooring? A different style you're trying to achieve?

Thank you for your comments. It makes a lot of sense as it does seem we are trying to mix styles. My wife´s goal was just to find a creative way to make the house brighter. As for refinishing the floors, we were advised that it would almost be more cost-effective to put down new flooring, but I can certainly revisit this. Also, thanks. My daughter is attached to our dog!

“Cost effective” can be a nebulous term. It will probably cost more up front to add wood and refinish existing, but it’s long term value to your home should be much greater.

If you are going to keep your cabinets, the first two would not be a good match.

Is it just the kitchen you are doing of the other room as well?

I'll take a look. Cabinets are two years old. We should have had this thought a few years ago. We were going to rip up the rug and hardwood and have the same flooring on the first floor.

If it were me, I’d have the hardwood flooring refinished throughout the first floor (except bathrooms) for visual flow and continuity. I love wood floors, and am not crazy about faux-wood materials, myself. They look and feel faux to me. YMMV.
