Hey lindy...I talked to my best friend today about tables and she said (with disdain) that I am NOT allowed to look at pub tables for my DR...no matter how casual we are! Sigh. You know what? We found a dark, distressed table (regular height) at World Market that I really liked and I think we might just go with that for now. As for the sofas...still haven't decided anything but this Sunday's paper had a flyer from RTG with one of the sofas I'd been considering. This time it was pictured in a beige room and the rich gold tones just seemed to POP from the sofa! Seeing that made me think it might work...but I'd still like to find a plain, comfy sofa and just decorate with pillows. You know what? After we put the girls to bed tonight, I may sneak to the computer and try to scan & post the Rooms To Go sofa to show it in a different setting!

For chairs, a basic wood ladder back chair with flat back slats (personal preference -- horizontal slats) would likely last a lifetime. They're easily carried out to the deck or patio, too. Sit in one before you commit to buying a set of them. My kids are all grown and no grandkids yet - plus this is a vacation condo so I picture this table being used for holidays and maybe 2-3 other times a year. It's pretty much just me and hubby and we have a small kitchen table we eat at. I was just trying to think outside the box of matching furniture. :-) Actually, the colors are do go together pretty well, it's hard to picture when using stock photos. I also came across this photo and ironically, the two chairs in the back are very similar to the matching side chair and the rattan chairs are the pretty much the same. The difference I see here is the table and parson chair and cushions are all the same color. But a different visual than my mock up. lol

I would love to give more modern look to this dining room. What should I change and add to it? All advices are appreciated. Thank you.
