Try a light color. SW Sea Salt would look good and really lighten up the room. We are building and I just used SW Sea Salt, BM Tranquility, SW Cascade Green, Jogging Path, Jubilee and Creamy. Let me know if you like any of those and I will post a pic so you can see what it looks like in my house. If you ask and I don't respond after a day or so, email me. If you aren't in to those kinds of colors, just disregard. Also, it would be a good idea to post your thread in the Home Decorating forum to get more input if you haven't done that already. I agree the doors are dated and having these painted properly by a pro will be expensive. I personally would change the backsplash first and the hardware.

Basements require good artificial lighting in order to make them feel comfortable. My suggestion is to paint your color(s) under consideration onto a 2x2 piece of drywall that can be moved about to view. Good luck.

You might want to sample BM Aegean Olive for the shutters and River Rock for the front door.
