Help with room arrangement/accessorizing w/pics
Comments (14)What you have is a great foundation. Beautiful really. I would suggest not going too matchey on the art. To me art needs to be personal. Look for something you love that doesn't clash. So not knowing your personal taste it would be hard to suggest art. That being said. Think outside the box, architectural elements make beautiful art. Iron pieces, painted ceiling tins etc. I also love taking a terrific personal photo (or 2) and blowing it up, making it black & white and finishing it off with a simple white matt and black frame. What you puts also depends on how formal/casual you want this to feel. You said it is your living room, do you also have a family room, or does this serve dual purpose? I too would love to know what the wall behind the sofa is like and what is on it. I think the armoire could be better suited there. Is there a tv in the armoire? can the room be arranged so that the armoire and fireplace are directly across from each other and the furniture arranged so that they are positioned to view either? I am thinking the sofa in front of the windows and the chair(s) directly across from and facing the sofa? I would love to then see the niche built out with some shelves for a more custom look. The armoire is so tucked in there I feel you loose some of it like the side views. It is fine where it is really, just another thought....See MoreNeed help accessorizing family room

Comments (4)I can only see a strip of the ivory shag rug. However, I would suggest a much larger, almost room-size rug in a traditional or transitional pattern (try overstock.com or esale. rugs under those headings). With such a dark floor (which shows every bit of lint and dust) a large rug is advised for that alone. Look for an Oriental rug in warm colors which will look good with traditional and modern styles, especially if you choose a more geometric (and less floral) pattern. I recommend simple off-white curtain panels as window coverings. Color can be introduced with the rug, pillows and art on the walls. You also need some table and/or floor lamps for nighttime illumination. A blue and white Chinese-style ceramic lamp base will look good with the Oriental rug, and you can get both terracotta and blue pillows that have a pattern with white or off-white also in the mix....See MoreNeed help with family room update - please help me shop and paint!
Comments (2)I think your first task is to find a rug to set the tone for the room. You could have carpet bound in the size you need if you want to stay mono-chromatic. A tone on tone rug in cream, tan and chocolate might add a neutral but interesting touch. It only needs to be a couple of feet wider than the sofa unless you add new end tables that you want to sit on it too. I would keep it 12" away from the hearth though. Once the rug is found, if it has a variety of tones in it, use the darkest shade for your chairs. Be sure and take your tape measure with you so you can determine the right height on them. I don't think they should be taller than the sofa. I don't think the two chairs have to match, and it would be nice if one of them had a pattern to the fabric. Here is a mono-chromatic room, but with a touch of pattern and texture....See Morekjoy1
