debrak2008, I have to figure out how to post a pic here first :P. But the countertop is those yellowish cultured marble top (you see a lot of those in the older houses) but it's not one-piece. The sink is an undermount sink, so it's just like the typical granite top with undermount sink you see now. BUT mine is not granite top obviously, and the sink is rusty and scratched. sjhockeyfan and weedyacres, Thanks for your link! Yes I looked on craigslist and saw some ads for prefab granite tops too. And my friend told me about this too. But my problem is I can't find my size, esp. the 72 inch SINGLE sink countertop... :(. And if I custom made that one, it's expensive. The worst is that I need one 60 inch (I found that this countertop is the only one that's the most typical size) and one 72 inch that's matching right, cuz they're in the same jack & jill bathroom! For the 36 inch countertop for the half bath, the problem is the depth is 1 inch more shallow than the typical tops, so it's 20 inch. And I can't go any deeper because the top is right next to the door opening so 21" countertop won't work! So yes, my house has some strange bathrooms and I figured either we spent more money to hire someone to renovate (but we don't have that funds now) the bathrooms, or we try to make small changes. Of course, I wish I could be as handy as most of the members here then the problem can be solved easily :( Anyways, thanks for all your answers! Please do share if you have any more insights. I already did move the towel ring up. It was directly over the outlet before. If I tried placing it below the switch then half towel would end up resting on the counter. And if I had something plugged in and it sparked that towel could have caught on fire. The clock is only maybe 9" wide. I need something that I can quickly glance at and see the time.. My vision isn't great without my glasses so I need something I can easily see. I could probably move it above the door though. The countertops are a standard size and I just bought ones that would fit the existing cabinets. So one was 35" and the other was 48", so I got a 36" and 49" counter and they fit with a little bit of a hangover. I love menards. Especially when they have 11% rebate sales, where you get a check for 11% back of what you spend.

What ACM said, the floor should be under the cabinets...If the floor comes up the cabinets come up with it. A typical inexperienced mistake by the installer. Like Joe suggested just raise base cabinets. If you going to raise the cabinets I would suggest using Granite installers, get them back and have them remove the granite and store it properly for the time being while adjustments to the kitchen are being made... Granite packs heavyweight and should be handled properly. Seen not on one occasion where people got hurt or caused property damage handling slabs without proper equipment. Also, slabs should be properly secured for the time being, especially if kids are around...When these slabs go, there is no way of stopping them and serious injury is unavoidable in most cases. You should be fine with 17 1/4" between the counter and the uppers, most counter appliances will fit under there without any issues.

My fabricator usually recommends 24. Depending on the silicone used for the rim seal, I can see some wanting 48. I think as long as your fabricator uses a proper mechanical means of fastening the sinks to the counters, it should be fine. The silicone merely acts as a seal And the plumber won't be able to jostle things if they are held tight with a Sink Setter, or HUSH. If he uses an adhesive as the only means of attaching the bowl to the stone, you've got other issues that need to be addressed. Ask him how he plans to fasten your sink to the stone, and see what he says.
