I have just gone through that with my mother. My father was in the care home, too, but due to his stroke which affected him more physically, but also scrambled his concept of time, strangely. My friend just mentioned another movie, The Mole Agent, which is up for best documentary. A fellow enters a home as a mole to keep an eye on someone’s parent. I think your movie will be harder for me to watch.

Another movie out is I Care A Lot, which is about fraud senior care but is more about an overseer and crime, more of an action movie.

I guess it’s all about us boomers and what we are experiencing with our elders!

I would love to see it but my husband has dementia so I have to stay by his side at all times. My Mom had it too and, in the end, she was in a nursing home. I don't think, right now, is the time for me to see any more. I'm on 24 hour duty here at our home.

Dealing with my 90 yr old mother's progressing dementia and keeping us all safe from the virus now as well, so no going to movie theaters for some time yet. I've heard good things about that film. Anthony Hopkins is a fine actor.

I really want to see this movie but won't be attending a movie inside a theater. Waiting for it to come to Netflix. We have dementia in our family and the latest victim, my 73-year-old vibrant beautiful cousin who died two years ago of dementia. Our grandmother and her daughters had some forms of it but she's the first to actually die from it.

My mom and 2 of her 4 sisters have/had dementia. The 4th died too soon for onset. Two Alzheimer’s. Mom had three diagnoses but by the time of the last, tbh it didn’t matter anymore. And the youngest at 87 now may be exhibiting signs. This worries me, especially because she and I are so alike in many ways, and I worry for all my cousins.

A comment about that theater...

We were there several weeks ago and the gal who was taking patrons money challenged a couple who refused to wear a mask. She would not take their money. She called for the manager and that couple were escorted from the building. The place where we were could seat several hundred people. When the ticket was purchased, you picked your seat from a fancy screen. There were a total of seven in the auditorium, they weren't making much money on us. The film started at 1:30 and we were out by 3:15. The next showing was not until 4:30, plenty of time to clean and all that.

We have had both of our shots now. But, when we went there several weeks ago (Nomadland, another one I recommend), the situation was similar. 10 people in the place. Lots of room between viewers, I was not worried. It is worse at the Target!

Go early, wear your mask and you should be OK. This film has been nominated for lots and lots of recognition. I have not seen all the films, but I predict that Mr. Hopkins will win. Less than two hours there, not a bad situation.

The daughter is played by Olivia Coleman, one of the finest actresses working today. I'm really looking forward to seeing this movie, but am not vaccinated yet and won't feel comfortable at any indoor venues until the numbers here in PA are way down...and at the moment they're going up.

We saw Florian Zeller’s original play. Brilliant. If you get the chance, go and see anything by him.

Thanks for the reminder Jim. I've seen trailers online for the film and I'm looking forward to seeing it. Actually I'd watch just about anything with Anthony Hopkins (except Silence of the Lambs - once was enough.

And Bookwoman is right - Olivia Coleman is pure joy.

I watched A Head Full of Honey with Nick Nolte a little while ago. He has Alzheimers. I thoroughly enjoyed it, it was funny and moving.

The girl who plays his Grand-daughter is his real-life daughter.

I am in Florida, and the theater is in Brooksville.

Having spent 15 years watching my husband change seeing a person dissolve with dementia is the last thing I want to do. They might help someone to understand the frustration but none tell of the day to day progression. I have yet to see one mention eating puree and drinking thickened water. The gradual shutting down of the body so they can no longer eat or drink. The movies all seem to be anger and sadness clothed in a pretty picture far from reality for most.

Much as I like Anthony Hopkins, I have no desire to spend a few hours crying at that movie. bpath, I know what you mean about family worries. I was always so proud of taking after my mother. Now our strong resemblance makes me afraid. Her Alzheimer's was a slow and horrible descent for over a dozen years. She'd been a yoga teacher, and being in great physical shape meant that her body kept going long after her brain dissolved. I worry a lot about my older brother who is by himself, and I've told my husband that if it happens to me, I want him to help me make an exit if I can't do it myself.

Don’t watch Elizabeth is Missing, with Glenda Jackson. or, do. It is pure, it is real, (not Real, just real, IYKWIM) and Glenda Jackson should have a nomination. It had me weeping, and so upset with the family who do not really know how to deal with her, or rather with themselves, how to adjust THEIR behavior instead of expecting Glenda to adjust hers.

My son does improv, and I learned so much from him on how to be with my mother. I taught those things to Mom’s caregivers, too.

My mother passed away 5 yrs ago at the age of 94. She had dementia and had been in a nursing home for several months. I couldn't watch a movie about dementia or alzheimers. Before the pandemic when I was going to book club we read the book "Still Alice" and it wasn't pleasant for me.

Rose, I read Stephen King say that Still Alice was probably the scariest book he’s ever read. I understand him now.

My Mom had Alzheimers for 15 years-she passed at 80 years of age(21 yrs ago)...she didn't know any of us from about age 73-now, my 69 yr old sister is exhibiting dementia symptoms ( has been for about 3 yrs)-I am thinking that by age 72 or so, she will no longer be as able physically or mentally as she is currently. She has gone downhill physically over the past year, terribly.

Myself-no one knows what the odds are regarding my ending up with this disease.

I am "forgetful" at times, and am very much aware of my forgetfulness-but not any worse than most my age-my son, only 42,has a much worse memory on a daily basis than I have.
