Drainage Solutions for Raised Beds
Comments (3)And I'd say the sandy loam was TOO sandy :-) That much compaction after rain would indicate that the particle size of the sandy loam was too small and too uniform. Larger sized organic matter, like chunky compost, incorporated well into the loam should suffice. I too would advise against tilling into the existing soil - the tilling is not going to overly disturb the soil biota and you will be adding tons more with the compost anyway - tilling will further disrupt water percolation and could impede rather than improve drainage. Making raised beds, either hard sided or loose berms, of a good freely draining, organic based soil (like the compost mixed with your loam) should provide all the drainage you need....See MoreHelp with Lawn Drainage Solution - Boston

Comments (5)I would go to a yard for earth products, and see what they have and what you like. Nuggets will move around too much, but otherwise, think about the activities your family (kids, pets, etc.) likes to do. If you have long-haired dogs, choose something that is less likely to get caught in fur. If you have toddlers choose something that works for their activities. Etc....See MoreDeck drainage solutions?
Comments (11)Please understand saw blades are designed for specific tasks. Rip blades have larger teeth and greater set which in turn creates a wider kerf and this isn't a job where you should go against best practice. Thin rip blades are available but they aren't suitable for doing what you need here. Thinner blades begin wobbling due to heat from friction sooner than thicker blades and continous cutting on this task will create a lot of heat. Don't get hung up with trying to preserve one or two thirty seconds of lumber ,there is no reason to. If you are inexperienced with power saws for goodness sake don't cut your teeth with this job,use hand tools and sweat rather than bleed....See Moregardengal48 (PNW Z8/9)
