Regional police have charged a 49-year-old man after an incident in my city that nearly triggered an Amber Alert.

Police were called to the outside of a bank on King Street South at around 8 p.m. Sunday, after a report from a father who had parked outside a bank and left his child inside.

Police said when the father came out of the bank, he reported that the vehicle and child were missing.

"We put out the information on social media while officers were in the process of doing an Amber Alert," police said, "During this time, the complainant realized that he was actually driving a different vehicle prior to attending the bank."

"Officers rushed to the area and quickly located that vehicle outside the bank with the child safe inside."

Police said the 49-year-old man is facing charges of impaired driving, driving while prohibited, child abandonment and failing to provide necessities.
