Design Dilemma Exterior Landscape Design

How should I update this 1976 exterior?

I love the stone on this 1976 house but I want to update the look. Should I alter the colors of the stone or just go with a new siding color? I’m torn since most of the front is stone. I am definitely painting the garage doors and trim but the gutters and roof are staying gray since they are new. Also, going to remove the shrubs and add landscaping. Would love some ideas!

I would keep the stone as is and would not paint it.

i would spend on new garage doors. Probably i would want one big one with a raw wood look, but I might stick with two. Hard to be specific based on just one photo.

I might also spend on copper gutters

i probably would remove all the shrubs but leave what appears to be a tree in front of the chimney, ( I think i might prefer vines up the chimney but I don’t like to take down trees.)

After I took out the shrubs I would see where i was at. One thing I am pretty sure I would want to do is replace the interior blinds visible through the front windows. Either drapes or even bottom up top down blinds that I could leave in the center position.

i think once I removed what looks like boxwoods on the right side of the house i would think about a large free form flower bed there, extending much further into the lawn, with low plantings, something not formal , using cedar chip mulch and stones here and there...

No shutters on the windows. Dont know what color I would paint what isnt stone on the house. Id have to see the neighborhood

Painting the trim white would definantly brighten up the facade. Replacing the circular vent with a square one would make it look a bit more crisp, and also replace light fixtures with much larger and more modern ones.

Wow thank you all for the suggestions! We do plan on changing the entry door as well. Wasn't sure about the color, but it looks like you guys are suggesting a wood color or stain finish. Looks really nice. I'm not sure what is under the siding. We have only stucco on a few other walls of the house (patio area), so I guess it's possible that stucco is underneath. I will check and reevaluate the situation. I just have seen that stucco can look really nice, and currently, our house is the worst looking on the block for sure. At $6/sqft, I was estimating ~$9k for the stucco. Might be too ambitious to be under budget taking into account the price to remove the current siding as well. The idea of keeping the vinyl siding didn't even occur to me because of its condition and look. You guys wouldn't recommend getting new vinyl at least? Didn't think about updating the porch light to a larger size, or adding the larger bushes. Great ideas! As for colors, yeah light gray can work too, but I've seen pics of dark gray+brick and it looked really nice. My artistic sense is quite lacking, so I'd have to evaluate what complements the kind of brick we have. Darker green is a good suggestion as well. Thanks all for the input.

Find a paint chip card that has the colors of the lightest, medium and darkest bricks. Use the lightest color for the siding and the darkest for shutters. A new pinkish white will be fine for the trim that is already white. Test your samples on foamcore board cut to the width of the shutters.

I have a super awesome wood burning stove in my home, that we’re currently updating. Drywall is up - yay. I was wondering how I could update the stove, I was thinking of painting the brick or even switching out the stove for a new one but would also need to update the flute and im not sure how easy a task that is? im also wondering how i can design an entertainment center or tv on this blank wall. the opposite wall is a sliding door and to the right of the fire place is a large opening into the dining/formal living room. Any fire place update/room designs would be great!

Remove the huge hedge and then re-evaluate. The chimney is so massive and stone on the sides makes that area so heavy and the focal point.

garage doors like this would be one choic. I still think i would prefer nat wood in a light tone but this gray is also nice

I think most painted stone looks awful. I would paint the siding a warm gray that works with the roof. Lower the bushes on the right about one third. Even if they look bare, they will fill in. Now they are just hiding the stone.
