Vinyl should have: 20mil wear layer of Aluminum Oxide finish. It should be 5mm+ or thicker (total plank thickness). A rigid core should be a 8mm+ or thicker (total plank thickness). Vinyl should NOT have integrated underpad (oh dear). There are SOOO MANY noise issues that are coming up with vinyl planks with integrated underpad. But here's the issue...vinyl does NOT allow underpad to be ADDED (again...same reason).

And vinyl should NOT be installed in front of windows with direct sunlight (unless you can establish the UV block is 70% or higher AND the floor will NEVER GET HOTTER than 85F (28 C). In direct sunlight...with a regular window (nothing high end) your floors are guaranteed to get hotter than 85F. That's the temp where vinyl starts to warp...and discolour...and then bleach out...and then stain purple/black (takes about 15 years...but it will happen).

You must know the UV rating/heat intensity in your home with direct sunlight hitting the floors.

Thank you. Is direct sunlight for 1-3 hours a day on one part of the for 3 summer months of the year (given the angle of my living room) in a climate where air temp in my cI do is rarely if ever 85 degrees ok then with thick vinyl? Or even that is too much of a risk?

Re the underpaid issue. i wasn’t aware to be worried about attached underpaid..what is issue there you’re referring to? Do you just mean it’s nit good enough for sound insulation or is there some other issue you mean? Thank you!

Oh, the Shaw product I mention has all of the features (this kind, alum oxide, etc), so then do ppl here think serious scratching is not to be worried about? They claim this is their most scratch resistant ever, but I have no idea if that can be trustsed

I installed the Shaw Prodigy HDR Plus in Hygge and so far it's just as bomb-proof as Shaw says.

It looks so much better than any LVP I've seen - more like high quality laminate or engineered hardwood.

I wanted to know if I needed to buy new rug pads on account that rubber doesn't play nice with vinyl and was curious about the make-up of Prodigy HDR since it lists it's construction as "PMgO". I found the official Customs Ruling given to Shaw in 2019 after they inquired about what tariff should be used the classify the PMgO (aka Magnesium Oxide Fiberboard) construction for import.

• The product is identified as "PMgO" flooring. The flooring panel sample measures approximately 7.5"(W) x 47" (L) x 10mm thick. The board is constructed a fiberboard core that consists of approximately 80% wood fiber and 20% magnesium components and filler additives. The core is faced with a melamine-impregnated, photographic paper layer, and is backed with a melamine-impregnated, balancing paper layer. The back of the panel is overlaid with a 1.5mm-thick ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) foam sheet (the floorboard is approximately 9mm thick). This EVA sheet functions as an underlayment. The fiberboard core is constructed of wood fiber that is bonded by a reaction that occurs when the fiber is mixed with the magnesium and additive components. The resulting panel has a density exceeding 1.0 g/cm3. The panel is tongued and grooved on all edges and ends with an interlocking profile.
  
  The magnesium fiberboard flooring is an innovation in fiberboard flooring products in that it is wood fiber bonded with magnesium components, as opposed to organic resins. Nonetheless, the product remains undeniably composed of bonded wood fiber as are the products of heading 4411, Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS). The instant panel does not meet the definition of "medium density fiberboard" (MDF) as set forth in the Explanatory Notes to the Harmonized System (ENs). The ENs explain that MDF is manufactured from dry wood fibers bonded with thermosetting resins. As the instant panel is not bonded with resins, it is precluded from classification as MDF. The PMgO board is instead bonded with inorganic magnesium compounds. As such, it is more specifically described by the language, "fiberboard of wood...whether or not bonded with resins or other organic substances."

There is lots of copy written calling it "Stone Plastic Core LVP" but it's actually a Wood-Magnesium core. The surface is Melamine with a "proprietary PetDefense" scratch-resistant coat of what likely Aluminum Oxide. The only "Luxury Vinyl" present is in the attached underlayment pad so Prodigy HDR Plus isn't actually LVP at all - it should be a new "Magnesium Oxide Fiberboard" category of flooring - essentially bomb-proof MDF.

We had 1000 sq ft of the Shaw Prodigy HDR Plus Hygge professionally installed. A month or so thereafter about 30 butt ends lifted or buckled and about 5 boards cracked. Looked great initially but shortly after installation noticed that the seams seemed larger as if the boards were shrinking and then the buckling started to appear. It has been about 8 months since the installation, and we are still waiting to hear further from Shaw. Cannot recommend this product.

Did Shaw ever replace the floor?

Shaw did not replace the flooring saying it was an installation problem. I would stay away from this product unless you can find an installer that has installed it many times and is happy with it.

I cannot for the life of me get this floor clean. I have tried everything and the Shaw Rep says only use their Hardwood floor cleaner which I have but it leaves a residue that even sliding in my felt padded dining room chairs in leaves a scuff mark. Shoe prints on a clean floor too! I am at my wits end and the Shaw rep has been no help! HELP!!
