Help! I think I have etching on my Tumbled Marble Tile Shower
Comments (2)Acidic products will etch marble. First go through what you use in the shower. Does your husband shave in the shower? Check his products also. Buy a cleaner for marble and have it for your cleaning service. Though, I would think they would know how to clean marble. But maybe not. Watch out for chlorine bleach, while it is basic and not acidic, it will mess with the color of your grout. Grout will absorb water, it's not water proof, but it should dry out also. Is your darker grout on the floor? Is is possible that whoever built your shower did not built a proper pre-slope? Though, I think different methods are used in different parts of the country, but the shower under the tile should slope towards the drain. Pictures will help once you get them loaded. Comments (4)You just might want to think about installing plenty of hand-rails, and do be sure you wear your slip-proof booties in there at all times. OR, you could use honed stone intead of polished. As for the booties, you'd be better off in bare feet. That being said, I HAVE installed plenty of polished marble bathroom floors, as well. That includes one in statuary white I had in my last house, and never had a problem with slipping....See MoreWho says I can't have a shower in my powder room? (+ field tile help!)
Comments (16)ACM - treasure trove of new ideas. Binging on placement of grab bars and grab bars with double lives now! Many thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Also I have decided on a white subway tile for the shower walls with the handmade whooshy look to the texture. Finally to the silly question that isn’t silly at all - the room in the bottom right of the floor plan which is cut off - we planned it as a bedroom with a wall of reach in closets + a spread of wall between two windows big enough for a queen bed. For now, though, we will use it as a flex room = office den and guest room. We’ll have a built In desk situation in lieu of the closet, a pull out or at least very large couch in lieu of a bed, and a media spot for den life. So A less mobile guest could stay at our house a little more easily as a result of this planning. Not ADA but something. On our urban lot size around here, you would often find the equivalent of this space used for a formal (no doors) living room or an office too small to accommodate a closet or a substantial bed so these trades are significant nods to thinking ahead. Since I added a good 3-4 feet to the typical size of this front room, finding another 5 feet for an en suite bathroom would really push the boundaries of the available configurations. So nothing is perfect but I will have more rather than fewer options if and when the time comes. I’ve heard others complain of the lack of this type of first floor options in typical configurations around here so these small considerations may set us apart for future buyers as well. Thank you all!...See MoreMarble Herringbone Tile
Comments (9)Well it’s just a completely different look. There’s nothing wrong with large format tile laid in an offset pattern, but it’s not herringbone. So it’s really just a design preference. You may not be able to lay the 12x24 in a half offset. We have 12x24 in a couple other rooms and had to go with 1/3 offset to avoid lippage....See Moremonicapwalker
