I can't believe what a difference powdered evaporated milk made.
Comments (47)Might be my fault Dan. I was temped to say something about digging up old threads just to be controversial but bit my tongue. ;) But I only threw in the "organic" on pest controls to distinguish them from synthetic pesticides because the milk advocates always come back with "it's better to use milk then to use chems". Also wanted to point out that it was raw milk - not available to most - Dixie was advocating. The bacterial count and types in raw is substantially different from that in pasteurized so pasteurized milk has even less potential value to plants than raw. Dave...See MoreHelp! My builder says we can't tile around whirlpool tub.
Comments (12)There are myriad solutions to this. The access panels can be put in an adjacent closet or can come through an adjacent wall. Or if on the first floor, they can be on the bathroom floor with access from the basement below. You can do a wood wainscot with removable panels. You can do a fully tiled apron, with a removable tile panel. Often times the "grout line" between the tiled access panel and the permanent field tile will be filled with color-matched caulk instead of grout. If access is needed, score the caulk with a utility knife and pop the panel off. The panels can be held in place with magnets, velcro, or some other mechanical means. I'm not a big fan of the caulked option, I'd rather do a removable tiled panel that has a lip to it, the lip can be tiled, a rope design, a piece of tile as the trim, etc. But that's my personal preference. As a builder and a tiler, I look at easy access for future or periodic maintenance. It's not that the caulked panel is difficult, I just prefer totally accessibly and non-destructive options. A tool-less panel that can be popped in or out at will. If you want your front apron to be just plain field tile though, then the caulked panel is your best bet. You can tile the apron, but have a wood "cubby" built in to the apron. Think a small niche. The cubby can be used to hold rolled up towels, or small notions, what ever. The niche can be popped out to access the tub's mechanicals. We've had a few threads about this, but I did a search and came up empty. Don't let your builder's lack of skill or imagination restrict your design....See MoreI can't help it....I love my brass shower surround
Comments (21)Ruthie, honest to goodness... please don't be swayed by those idiot youngfolk (and I say that as someone who just passed early 30s) on HGTV. These are people who seem to consider it 3rd world to have anything less than a massive, dedicated master bath suite with a separate shower, sunken tub and double vanity (tell me, is it really that hard NOT to do the spit part of brushing your teeth at the exact same time? How about they just take turns using the sink? Somehow my husband and I have managed to coordinate this for years). They get all excited about a gas stove and the fact that it's stainless without knowing WHY they even want a gas stove, or anything about how well the darn thing heats or how evenly it cooks -- I've never seen anyone with a copy of Consumers Reports on those shows. They demand a huge, professional cooking space for what? To make lasagna? Boxed mac and cheese? A turkey on Thanksgiving? Please. Think about it. You can't take them seriously! I agree that brass is back; it'll just take the mainstream a bit to catch up. You love it, so why spend the money when you'll just end up wishing you hadn't in a few years? And, if you really want to spend the money, why not just share it with us instead. ;) We'll appreciate it much more than some store anyhow....See More10 yrs and I still can’t get our living room right - HELP PLS
Comments (57832)Hi Seajay! I am glad to see you are making progress! It is very rainy here today on the Gulf coast! I have a contractor remodeling our master bath right now! The soak tub has been converted to a walk-in shower. And the old shower is being framed as a closet! They have been here since Tuesday, and they are almost done today! Yay! The painter we are hiring just called and wants to start next Tuesday! OMG, my head is spinning!😂🤣😂...See Morecerileen
