Do you line your new kitchen drawers and shelves?
Comments (21)Not sticky-backed at all. In fact it looks almost like packing foam, but thicker and stiffer. I like that it cushions the drawers and pull-outs where I used it. It muffles some of the noise when I put my pots and pans and glass bakeware away, and cuts down on the rattling when I open/shut those same drawers/pull-outs. It keeps my electric fry pan, my stand mixer, my food processor and its assorted parts from sliding around when I open or close their pull-outs and my cutting boards from doing the same in their drawer (not to mention protecting the wood from the mineral oil I use on my wood carving and cutting boards). I also ended up putting some pieces of CC on the bottom of my tray cab. I don't know if sliding my baking sheets and cooling racks in and out would have scraped up the cab floor or not, but my pizza stone stored in that cab surely would have, so I put pieces of CC on the cab floor on both sides of the divider. Is it a must have? That's up to you. Oh, and they do pretty much stay in place....See MoreWhat do you put in your shallow drawers?
Comments (9)Let's see.... (1) Pot Holders in the drawer b/w my cooktop and ovens (24" wide) (2) Knives and Prep & Cooking utensils & tools under my cooktop (36" wide) (3) Foil, parchment paper, and my gluten-free utensils (a special need) (31" wide) (4) Silverware (24" wide) (5) Wraps and plastic bags (24" wide) (6) Electrical things like extension cords, switches, etc. (24" wide) (7) Linens (dish cloths and dish towels) (33" wide) (8) Coffee supplies: K-cups, sweeteners, filters (my in-laws are resistant to changing to K-cups), coffee scoop, and butter (the toaster is next to the K-machine) (33" wide) (9) Serving utensils (pizza cutters, corn holders, serving spoons for pot-lucks, etc.) and oven tools (thermometers - both manual and electric) (27" wide) (10) Flashlights & batteries (27" wide) (11) Dog supplies (spare collars & leashes, meds, etc.) (27" wide) I have one 4-drawer stack with 3 shallow drawers: #s 4, 5, 6 The rest are 3-drawer stacks The Dog supplies are in a roll out tray shelf (ROTS) that is the equivalent of a shallow drawer b/c it's placed as high as I can get it to have the most vertical space possible for the dog food cans on the bottom ROTS. The contents and locations are based on what goes on in that area. So, my prep and cooking tools are in the Prep & Cooking Zones, my baking and roasting tools are in the Cooking Zone and Baking Center, etc. Here is a link that might be useful: Link to the insides of the drawers in Buehl's cabinets...See MoreDo you have a man drawer in your kitchen?
Comments (35)krycek, That makes sense. My point was not to store stuff in the kitchen that doesn't belong in the kitchen. In your case, it probably does belong there. But so many times, maybe because the kitchen is sort of the heart or center of the home, things just sort of end up there, even though it might not be the ideal place for them. I used to have two junk drawers in my old (pre-remodel) kitchen. When I was assessing how that kitchen functioned and what I wanted to change in the remodel, one of the things I looked at was what was being stored there. The reason there were two junk drawers is because the way that kitchen was laid out, those two drawers were totally inconvenient to the cooking area. The crazy thing is, I needed more drawers! But I didn't use those for kitchen stuff, I used them for all the odds & ends that I didn't know where else to put. IMO it's all a matter of planning what works best for you. If the kitchen (and that's why I noted above, the outskirts of the kitchen) is the best place for your tools, AND you can store them there without taking up the space that should be used for cooking equipment, then great! Plan it that way. But if you're putting those things in the kitchen because, well, that's where they've always been and it never occured to you to put them elsewhere, then think more about things like where they are used and if storing them in the kitchen is taking up space that might be better used with kitchen stuff....See MoreWhat is your narrowest drawer and what do you put in it?
Comments (20)I think all those tiny drawers are simply a weird design of larger drawer dividers. My smallest drawer is in 12" drawer cabinets. Even those are worthless. I store 1) pot holders 2) large utensils such as ladles, BBQ junk. In the bottom I store plastic bags. In it's mirror image, I store shelf support things, then paper bags, then nothing (so far). I'd put in a full height thing for trays, or a step stool or something. That seems like a silly waste of space, though. Just me. I am tired of small drawers and skinny cabinets. I think 12" cabinets were invented just to fill in space, not for actual usage. Just my op-onion. C....See MoreCarrie B
