What do you store in your kitchen drawers?
Comments (30)@ beaglesdoitbetter: I love the look of your drawers, but wrt the knife storage -- it would drive me around the bend to have to make those extra motions to get at and put away a knife (open drawer, then pull on inner drawer, then pull out knife). But cooking styles differ so much from person to person. I use a chef's knife for 90% of my knife work, and would be willing to keep the others (bread, utility, slicer, and paring) in a drawer-within-drawer if the chef's knife were available on the counter....See MoreWhat do you line your drawers with? What do you do for smells?
Comments (1)Sachets just add one stink to another. Clean the drawers with vodka after your stain has cured in. Sitting in the garage made them smell worse as they were not getting use or air circulation. Heat breeds bacteria, which breeds stink, which is what happens when you do not use something and it sits in an unairconditioned environment. Vodka will kill the bacteria. Lots of alcohol in vodka. Use the cheapest brand money can buy and clean your drawers with it a week or so after your stain has cured in. You might have to repeat it in the warm weather. Just like houses that are not occupied, the bathroom begins to smell like the toilet was never flushed, drawers will have bacteria build up and that is where the odor arises. It's called incubation. You are growing a culture, sotaspeak....See MoreWhat do you put in your pots ?
Comments (0)I am curious what people do, and expect when they use certain terms, oh and yes I know about the Container Gardening site and I am not interested in discussing 5-1-1 or the Gritty mix, that has been done to death.... I'll start with what I have in my thinking.. #1 Potting Soil: a mix of peat/coir with perlite or less commonly vermiculite or sand #2 Potting Mix: similar to Potting Soil but with added compost, bark etc. #3 "420 Gardening mix" - Potting Mix which has every organic gardeners dream added in (e.g. Ocean Forest) #4 Soil based mix: Any mix of above which contains some garden soil (loam preferred ?) #5 Re-Mixed Potting soil: Use old potting mix combined with new ingredients like fine bark and compost. #6 anything I missed ? For starting seeds I am using #2, and for Pots outside I have been doing #2 and #5. All outside pots are watered automatically by 'spot spitters' and I have a fertigation system using Miracle grow or similar. I did try something like #4 a long time ago, but the pots don't drain after a while. I am growing tomatoes in growbags for the first time - and using something like #3 for the first time as well. I ran out of nematode free ground. Happy Gardening...See MoreWhat do you put under your sink should pipe leak?
Comments (7)We recently had a plumbing line to a toilet outside of our family room burst. We've had minor leaks before but nothing like this. The damage was near 10K. If you or another person in your household does not have basic plumbing skills please hire a licensed plumber to fix these annoyances. Check out Angies list or the Next Door App to find someone if you do not know where to turn. Best Wishes....See Moreelba1
