What do you use to line your kitchen compost bin?
Comments (28)nygardener said: "I tried those bio bags or eco bags for a while, still have some in the cabinet, but found that they didn't degrade quickly. Weeks later I'd see the bag still intact in the compost heap. They may be good for municipal collection but not for backyard composting." I used those bio bags for a while back in 2006 or 2007, and I'm still finding relatively intact pieces in the pile. Granted I run a cold pile that's slower than many, but I've still gotten plenty of good compost out of it. I just keep throwing the green bio bag pieces back into the beginning pile. The bio bags were convenient for carrying the scraps out to the pile, but I might just as well have used plastic bags. Now I'm trying to figure out what I can do with the unused roll I have under the sink. Claire...See MoreDo you line your cabinets?
Comments (16)I love the idea od a magnetized strip for knives, Pesky! I have wanted to have one of those for years and may just figure out a way to do it in the existing space one of these days! I have two knife holders in drawers. Works fine, but I lose that space and in my kitchen (galley-style), I hate to waste any space. As to shelf paper-I used to line cabinets, but we also have a hard finish on ours and I have found that it is easier to clean inside when I don't have shelf paper. Even the supposedly wipe-off liners seem to end up looking dirty. I do have liner in the bathroom linen closet where I keep all my toiletries (cosmetics, toothpaste, etc.) but that is because the shelves are not in such great shape. Time to repaint, I guess. Glasses are stored right-side-up....See MoreDid you line your drawers and shelves?
Comments (35)Here's a liner "horror" story for the TKO crowd: For our last house, I bought a couple rolls of nice liner for our bathroom cabinets to protect the wood from any leaks or spills from all of the bottles and jars of toiletries. I planned to template the drawers and carefully cut the liner to fit each space, but I didn't get to it fast enough. My visiting MIL decided to help while I was at work one day. Unfortunately, she prefers speed to precision. I came home to drawers lined with hacked up pieces of liner with few straight cuts in sight. Given my OCD tendencies, it was difficult to look at every time I opened a drawer. I assume GW members who use liner cut it a bit more carefully, lol....See MoreWhat do you line your drawers / shelves with?
Comments (22)My drawers, well with spanx..oh wait not those drawers... Honestly, nothing :) I'm in the naked drawers and shelves camp, though my mother often comes along and puts anything she can find down as a liner when I'm not watching (paper towels, placemats...I'm hiding the bathmats...) I love no liner :) Nothing yucky to move, no wrinkles, no crinkles :) Now my cats on the other hand...well they're obviously more refined than those above and wouldn't shed a hair on my cabinets...they prefer being decorating accessories in the main parlor: And they're no lazy susans (pun intended) When they line a sink...they LINE the sink:...See Morebeatrix_in_canada
