Yes. It keeps the wood from being scratched and protects dishes, glasses, etc.

I especially get a cute under sink liner where our trash goes.

Before we did the remodel I had gotten lazy about lining the cabs, and when we were taking everything out of them I couldn't believe how scratched and ugly they were!

I use Cushy Cupboards in the pot and utensil drawers and on the shelf that holds the vinegars and oils. Under the sink I have a couple trays that hold dish soap, cleaning supplies, etc. and one for the compost bucket.

Nope. My kitchen shelves are painted white with some sort of very hard paint, but I do not remember what I used; it was about 10 years ago. Just have to swab them out once in a while.

This is probably a good time to ask this question: Why do people store their glasses upside down inside cupboards? Everyone but me seems to do it.

I store glasses upright.

I store my glasses one up, the next one down. Space saving for glasses that are smaller on the bottom than they are on top.

I line my cabinets but don't reline every year.

I don't line our kitchen cabinets or the larger drawers. The wood has some kind of protective finish and I have not noticed any scratches. I do wipe them out from time to time. Utensil drawers, etc. and bathroom drawers are lined although I also use utensil type holders in both kitchen and bath.

Our trash and cleaning product cabinet areas are pull-out thingies, no lining under those. Hubby takes them out occasionally and washes out.

Glasses shouldn't be stored on their rims - that is the weakest part of the glass.

I have lining under my kitchen sink, but not elsewhere. The wood finish in the cabinets is fine, not a furniture finish that would get scratched, and we have lived here 24 years. Of course the shelves do need to be wiped out periodically,and I do use a utensil tray in the silverware drawer, and the sharp knives are in blocks.

My cabinets are old, painted wood, so I guess that is why I always line them. Even tho I use organizers in my drawers, I still line them!

So is it better to store knives in a block? I know they shouldn't be in a drawer where they can knock together, but I found some drawer liners that are specifically for knives, they're shaped to accomodate the handle and the blade depth, with slots cut for the blade. In my dream kitchen I'd have a magnetized strip for them.

I love the idea od a magnetized strip for knives, Pesky! I have wanted to have one of those for years and may just figure out a way to do it in the existing space one of these days! I have two knife holders in drawers. Works fine, but I lose that space and in my kitchen (galley-style), I hate to waste any space.

As to shelf paper-I used to line cabinets, but we also have a hard finish on ours and I have found that it is easier to clean inside when I don't have shelf paper. Even the supposedly wipe-off liners seem to end up looking dirty. I do have liner in the bathroom linen closet where I keep all my toiletries (cosmetics, toothpaste, etc.) but that is because the shelves are not in such great shape. Time to repaint, I guess.

I have a magnetized knife strip mounted on the side of the cabinet over the sink. Strong, handy, nice to have there.

I store the everyday glasses upright, but the ones that are only used when company comes are rims down. Since they're not used that often, it keeps them from getting dusty inside. They've been stored that way for 15 years I've been in this house and no problems with breakage.

I lined my cabinets when I moved in. Mostly because the house was not new and I didn't like the thought of the PO's anything touching my anything. Yes, I know I'm weird. If the house was new or if/when I redo the kitchen, I would not line them again.

I used to line my cabinets and drawers, but in my current home, the shelves and drawer bottoms are MDF with a melamine coating. So, I just wash them. I do use utensil holders in several of the drawers.

I don't line mine for three reasons:
1) I'm lazy and don't need anything else to do...
2) My shelves and drawers are relatively new and in good condition, and
3) It's supposed to be more sanitary not to. Apparently lots of little bugs like to hide under that paper...

I had Hubby build me a custom knife block that sits in the drawer right under my cooktop. VERY space efficient, and I guess it does protect the drawer bottoms.

Like others, my cabs have some sort of protective finish which keeps them from scratching. I wipe them out with a soapy cloth when necessary, but lining paper is a thing-of-the-past for me. ;o)

Barware (that's the fancy stuff) I store upside down. It's out on open trays and I don't want it to get dusty. Regular drinking glasses are in glass cabinets and are used so quickly there's no chance of them gathering dust. Mugs for coffee and tea I store upside down because my dishwasher doesn't do the greatest job (nothing I've ever bought from Sweden works the way it's supposed to. The Asko DW stinks. The Saab cost a fortune to maintain. Even my IKEA stuff falls apart). Since the bottoms of the mugs are still wet when I take them from the DW, putting them upside down prevents the h2o that's left on them from hurting my wooden cabinets.
