DIY copper countertop #2
Comments (45)Awesome thread! Im building an L-shape public bar top which is 5 meters long (196 inches) on the long side and 3 meters (118 inches) on the short side. 450mm deep (17 inches) with about a 2 inches thick overall but with a 4 inch trim under the front lip of the bar. Never worked with copper before but am totally inspired thanks to this board. Im located in the remote Japanese Alps so a little hard to get the local USA products here. Ill probably import the copper in a roll from China and try to get similar contact adhesive and Just for Copper type products locally in Japan. Mongo59, to get your sanded effect, did you just alternate the angle of the sander at regular intervals? Pruit6, do you have any more pictures of how you folded the copper around the edges and corners? Circus Peanut and Jenathegreat, after years of use do you have any issues with the glued edges opening up at all? Has the Just for Copper product lasted over time? If expoxy is used, will it scratch and dull over time with heavy use? Thanks everyone for all your insights....See MoreCopper Countertop Sealant?

Comments (8)Take out that penny jar you'e got somewhere. Now spread them all out on the table. All of tose different shades of copper is what a well used copper counter will look like. All at the same time. Now, mix those pennies up again. That's what it will look like tomorrow. Mix again. Now that's what it will look like next week. Every day, with every use, it will leave it's trace. That bright blotch there is where the lemon drooled off of the cutting board. That dark spot there is where you dribbled some cleaning product and then had to stop and answer the phone. There's the blotch there where you sat your blazing hot iron skillet when the grease almost caught on fire. If the thought of all that doesn't make you faint outright, you might be a good candidate to live with copper. It IS aliving surface, and will show all of it's age spots and wrinkles, just like all the rest of us old coots....See MoreDIY Copper Countertop....ohboy
Comments (2)The 'normal patina' can be wiped off with a finger to some extent. It is not all that hard. It is various types of copper oxides, copper chlorides, etc. If it looks bad (or good) one week, it will be different the next....See Morerockypointdog
