"oak stained wood" could be 100 different colors.

"gray" you want? there's at least 1000 diff shades of gray.

here. these are bright colors that work w/wood.

with honey oak trim stain colors, you want a green-gray if going gray.

bronze undertones w/green/grays look great w/wood.

stay away from cool, blue undertone grays.

Any chance you could paint the baseboards or the other stained trim?

Oh I would love to but the entire house would need baseboards, trims and new doors. Not really in the budget right now. 😒

Your house has a nice midcentury vibe to it so the low profile trim and flat panel wood doors work for me. You don't even notice the baseboards since they blend well with the hardwoods. I do notice that your furniture is a mix of styles and the fireplace is very traditional. You didn't ask for an overall assessment, but it's all part of the big picture of picking a color. What style do you want to go with?

Yes, I have been leaning towards mid century lately. The fireplace and chandelier may go this summer when we paint.. I do appreciate any advice you may have. I also have to consider a paint that will go well with the accent wall in the dining room. What are your thoughts of revere pewter by bm or sea mist by sw.

I'd paint the baseboards a nice white. It's easy enough to do. leave the trim on the doors.

Does that faux fireplace need to stay? it really doesn't work w/the other elements in the room.

if you want a mcm vibe (and you're halfway there) i'd remove that and do a nice console w/some art above it

here are some softer blue colors that would look nice w/the rug and the wood. you need a bit of greenery (something tall) next to that stone wall.

the white colors would look nice on the baseboards.

To me..the thing that needs fixing is the lopsided look of the brick wall...the inset area should be painted to match the brick and the ceiling...i would also say the brick should have a matte finish...and the inset have only a tiny bit if sheen...removing the glass will make it look more like a built-in...and if possible a trim around the opening so the front looks finished and flush...and add a nice baseboard across the bottom of the brick....as is ...it sort of feels like an oddity...rather than a pretty architectural feature...that is striking ...but understated...

mitchie, one other thing. If you really want to lean into the mid century realm, that current table is more traditional.

I'll give you some other options, but, here's a similar color and style where they painted the chairs a soft white

this table is round, so the single pendant works w/this, but look at how it instantly lightens the look.

these are all more mcm style. And btw, I love black w/your warm wood tones.

I know you said you wanted bright, but this black w/your stone wall and warm wood tones would be beautiful.

you could always do a bolder color rug. notice this white oval table and black/wood chairs

if black is too much, look at this one. looks nice w/the wood, but paint the baseboards white

across the room you could do a similar color console

these aren't mid century in a vintage sense, but they aren't traditional either.
