I replaced a built-in SubZero last year when the 1988 original-to-the-house-model started leaking and, I was told, couldn't be repaired. Mine is one of the smallest widths at 36 inches. The old one was a side-by-side which I didn't like because the freezer side was so narrow, so I opted for a french door model with the freezer on the bottom. What a mistake on my part. Despite being the same cubic feet, the bottom freezer holds about 15% - 20% less than the side-by-side. Also, the produce drawers go the width of the refrigerator so you have to open both doors to open the drawer which is a horribly energy inefficient design.

Okay, rant over and moving on to your question. They had no problem making the exchange, getting around the island and through the kitchen door. You can look up the measurements of your current and proposed units and measure to see if they will fit. Remember that the doors can be removed, if necessary.

I was most concerned that the dolly would mar my wood floors, but they used some sort of fiberboard pads to protect the floor and I had no damage.

My brother just replaced his old fridge and dishwasher and upon delivery he discovered that both of them were just an inch off (too big) to fit into their vacated spaces. Luckily after doing some creative granite top grinding he was able to squeeze both into place. Measure twice, and don't cut once ;-)

I have two 20 year old Sub-Z units (separate all fridge and all freezer) that were put into spots of custom cabinetry. Models that are no longer made. Replacement will require new cabinet work or some kind of jury rigging.

They've been excellent but I know they must be approaching the twilight of their useful lives. I hope they remain serviceable in the house for as long as we want to remain, which is uncertain. I don't want to experience or pay for a complete kitchen remodel again, if I can avoid it.

Measure because what the standard was is no longer the standard. As far as any damage it will depend on the crew. I had one crew that knew to score the many layers of paint in our old 1913 house and then apologized for the one chip that they were unable to prevent coming off. I have others that were simply day laborers who while they had moved refrigerators before had only moved and installed into new construction.

At that age of appliance I am surprised that you did not replace the old one when you redid you kitchen. Never having anything that could be repaired when things die I no longer even attempt to have them repaired and budget for replacement.

Just called around and found out there are no Sub Zeros to be found and they are back ordered till June. Parts are hard to find also but might get it in 2 weeks to a month. Good thing we bought a back up refrigerator 2 years ago when it broke down last time. We kept it for extra storage. Just have to run back and forth between the garage and kitchen. Another problem due to covid or those we talked to said.

Yes, ALL appliances are back ordered. Manufacturers briefly shutdown, then reopened and are behind in production.
