I've had our CD FD only around a week - maybe a bit longer. Haven't hooked up the water/ice yet but will in next few days. Also got it at Lowe's on sale (ended up being 20% off) w/ dual ice as well. So far we're blown away by every feature. Love: how huge it is for being a CD; the amazingly efficient layout; the fold up shelf for when we have too many tall drink pitchers; the slide-out shelves; the handy deli drawer and its various settings as well as its divider; cool crispiness of everything (usually our spinach by now starts wilting just a tad); the dual ice areas; the LED light; the chiming for door being left open; the digital display and all the handy features there; the yes very awesome freezer handle; the freezer itself and the slide out upper tray and the small skinny tray thingie near the opening that holds smaller things like frozen meals, ice packs and frozen juice containers; the wine holder and pop cans holder (I actually don't use it for pop but instead keep big ziplocks filled w/ rainsins and nuts shoved in there - it holds those types of things well!); the fact that the milk stays cold in the door and that the door *could* technically hold up to 4 gallons of milk in the doors if you wanted it to; the fact that the doors hold all our condiments when I was so sure they wouldn't - and that's w/ the ice/water in door, too); the child lock (in in our case, also adult lock for a couple of wily friends); the way you can open one veggie drawer from opening only one door - on either side. Cant' do this w/ the deli drawer though but that's pretty quick/easy so it doesn't matter; the fact that the deli drawer gives SO much more space for extra veggies/fruit and because it's long and flat you can see it all easier - so it's a lot more handy than the traditional cheese/meat drawer that's too deep and not as access-friendly; the fact that the dairy tray is tall enough to take a couple layers of butter; and lastly...the fact that it's a gorgeous fridge. I shouldn't have shared any of this till I've had it longer and given it more time, so please take this into consideration. Also remember - I have to let you know how how well the ice/water in door (and in freezer) works after that's hooked up. One not of concern, though I'm not too worried yet: there's some frost in the freezer which I didn't expect. I haven't gone through the list of possibilities/possible causes yet (e.g. are air vents blocked or is temp at wrong setting or should I turn off energy-saver option which I HOPE is not the only solution) or is door not sealing properly due to tape I haven't removed yet or what have you...or did I leave door open too long when first turned on and loading already-melting frozen food, etc. Hopefully that will work itself out over the next few weeks. I'll let you know about that too. It's not a huge inconvenience but had better not stay this way.

ETA - I got duped by an old thread! Ugh! Do you need the Twins? My sis-in-law has them but she fills them up with 4 growing kids and lots of entertaining. They look great! And she got a great price. The Twins would be plenty big enough for a Brita water pitcher negating the need for water in the door. If you can fill them, I'd get them because that would be one place where I could save money to spend somewhere else.

Be careful when buying non-standard sizes. Many fridges only live less than 10 years (with the exception of some higher-end models that have a reputation for living 20+ years). If you need to replace your fridge in, say, 7 years, you might find that nobody makes a replacement with the unusual dimensions that you require. The other question is whether you really need a single unit that does it all. From what you are describing, you might be happier with a separate all-fridge column and a freezer column or drawers. You also mention ice makers. If you don't absolutely need a through-the-door ice maker, try to find an internal icemaker without a water dispenser. Takes up less space, is more energy efficient, has a lot fewer parts that can break, and if it does break, it usually is much easier to repair. In fact, in our case we are completely forgoing the ice maker in our main kitchen, as we know we only go through about one container of ice per month. We can do this, as our house has another fridge in the in-law unit that does produce ice. And I can just refill a storage container whenever needed. But this is a very specific solution that probably won't work for you. Having said all of that, maybe start your search by trying to figure out how many cubic feet of storage you actually need for both fridge and freezer, and then narrow it down from there. Finally, I have a hard time envisioning a kitchen layout that has a 14ft wall with only a single appliance. On the surface of it, that sounds like an inefficient layout. Of course, without actual drawings, it would be impossible to judge that, nor to make suggestions. Maybe you could post a blue print? This forum can be quite creative (albeit also opinionated) on efficient kitchen design.

It is hard to extrapolate from past performance to future performance. So, take all of this with a grain of salt. But if you look around in this forum and ask who still has a 20+ year old fridge, the vast majority of people will tell you that it is SubZero. There are individual outliers, but overall that brand is known to last well. You could also look at manufacturers such as True, Perlick, Bluestar, Miele, ... They all make models that target a similar market. Most of these manufacturers have been around for a long time, but they simply haven't been making residential refrigerators for 20 years yet. So, nobody could tell you for certain, whether their products last that long. Same as nobody can guarantee that at modern SubZero is built just as solidly as what they historically were able to do. If long-term reliability is your concern, then I personally wouldn't look at KitchenAid, JennAir, Electrolux, Samsung, LG, or GE. Their historic track record simply isn't that great. On the other hand, they are much cheaper. You can often by three or four of these models for the cost of a single one of the more expensive brands. The downside is that you might actually have to buy that many replacements.
