Should we paint our home white?
I have always loved white homes - to me they are nostalgic and charming. Our home was built in the 30's but over time changes were made by previous owners and unfortunately it's lost it's vintage charm. We recently made some updates and are ready to paint. I keep leaning towards white (possibly with black trim), I think in attempt to glean some vintage-y feels.
We plan to paint the beams/posts, not stain them. The front door is not staying red - thinking black or a different pop of color. We will do some landscaping to the left to try and fill in that blank area.
My husband like grey, and I do too, but worry it's a trend that will go away at some point and will not give me the vintage-feels.
I live in the country, so wondering if white will look dirty more quickly than other colors.
The top two photos are our home, bottom two are what has been inspiration for the project.

or do some type of stencil on it to make it look like tile.

Comments (5)Congratulations on your new home - how exciting! I would not paint the walls grey/blue/green due to the orange/yellow wood. Those colors would look nice in your home but may feel a little old-fashioned to you. In my opinion, grey has been overdone and it's time for something fresher. I would paint both the walls and the wood trim the same soft white to give it a more modern feel. The trim is not very substantial so just paint it out altogether. Bring in color with your furniture or art. When you eventually replace the flooring you can think about changing the trim too. Comments (3)IMO blue/ grays are hard to work with if i have a client that has to paint before a house is completed i highly reccomend a pale grayed green it is much more neutral than gray and seems to work with everything. Sea Salt from Sherwin Williams is a good color it is not the same as BM sea salt....See More

3 years agolast modified: 3 years agoPerhaps consider a deep blue, for practicality and more harmony. White is going to be a pain to upkeep given the proximity of trees and I‘d look at a more earthy feel to compliment the surroundings

3 years ago@er612 Thank you SO much that was incredibly kind of you to do those mock-ups. SO helpful. Could I trouble you to do two more with this photo? (Roofing is done so no more ugly tarp hanging over and we put up lights.)
If so, could you do the first one (white with pale blue door) but could you add black trim around the windows and roof line? And the light grey one (as is)?
