Window treatment suggestions

Hi all,

We need ideas for what to do with this bay window in our dining room. I removed 80s vertical blinds that fit inside the window area. They did help keep the sun out since the windows faces south and the DR can get hot in the summer. We're not looking to spend a lot on this, and it could be a DIY solution. Any ideas? I was thinking some roman shades or 2" blinds. The rest of the windows facing the front of the house have 2" blinds. I supposed blinds or shades would require 3 sets - 2 to cover the outer 2 window sections and 1 for the middle. FYI I'm in the process of painting the DR with BM Horizon Gray.

Solar shades inside mount. Hang a rod halfway between the top of window and molding. Panels on the ends.

If you choose to install shades or blinds, I would do 5. Not three.

We had Silhouettes in our last Philly house and I didn't love them. Do people not like those wood slat blinds anymore? Have they gone out of vogue? I do like the idea of a fabric blind a lot. Hopefully we can find some options that will work with the paint color. So hard!! Graywings - the paint color is Wedgewood Gray - we've used it before (with wood blinds now I think about it) and love the color. This is the 3rd house we've had a Wedgewood Gray bedroom in. We're such creatures of habit. Lol. Here it is in our Hoboken house. Do you like it with these blinds? Or not enough color?

solar shades with a clip at the bottom they will control the sun and with the clips won't blow in the breeze and bonus you get to keep the view and they are very afforadble I use Steves blinds 10% weave and a dark either charcoal or bronze for the best view.

I would recommend some roman shades. Their are plenty different options for light filtering so I'm sure you could find some that block out enough light for you. You could even get some blackout valances that would fit the small window and provide the light filtering you need.

You need to show all four sides of the room to get the best suggestions. Asking about one element (curtains) isn't what good design is about. We didn't know about other windows, what's on other wall that might clash with curtain suggestions. Is it a TV wall? PLEASE, DESIGN DILEMMA PEOPLE, SHOW A ROOM FROM ALL FOUR SIDES. With the limited visual information, here's a start. Put beautiful live plants of various heights at the windows since you can't really get full length drapes with your baseboard heater. This would connect to the view of your plantings outside. If you have space, move sofa forward from the window to let maximum light. So much of that window is blocked by the massive sofa.. Without seeing the rest of the space, you could get drapes for the other windows with a pattern that includes greenish wall color. . Thank about getting a pairing of severals art work to balance out the bulk of the sofa in this palette: The art works don't need to match but should complement each other.

Three blinds would look odd. I would use drapes on each side of the window, with one interior mounted solar shade inside the window. You won't see the blind against the white molding when it's fully open.

Solar shade as in a roller shade? Like 5 individual shades or 1 long shade?

How far to either side of the window should curtain panels extend? Would they just be decorative be able to cover the windows?

Yes solar shades are roller shades. If possible (because we don't know window measurement) 1 shade. You can have the panels be just decorative but make sure they are full enough to look like they would cover the window when closed. Make sure the rod is hung wide enough that the panels hang straight down the window edge & not over that window sill edge

You could do shears with to the floor drapery mounted on the outside of the window.

This is an example of drapes with solar shades. You can get different levels of opacity based on your needs. Just use one long shade for the whole window. The panels don't need to cover the whole window.

The ideal would be one long shade. Or five. Not three of different sizes. With drapes, too, if possible.

The overall inside width is about 111". Do they make shades that wide? Otherwise each individual window is about 20" between the mullion. The depth of the frame/mullion is only about 1/2" so not sure how well inside mounts would work here. Or could the shade width cover part of the frame, and then I could mount the top casing? If doing that maybe I could make cornice to hide the shades when up.

Yes pretty sure you can get 1 shade 111" wide

You can get a shade that long, and it would look so much better than 5 small ones. You can either mount the shade to the top of the window frames, or to the top of the alcove, in front of the windows. Either way, if you get a white shade you would barely see it when it was open all the way. It will blend in with the white window frame. Or just use drapes that open and close all the way if you don't want a shade.
