Do roman shades!

Roman shades would be great there, and I love them, with or without other layers of window treatments. There are other things you can do if you are averse to the shades idea, though, but they will involve covering a bit of window. You could have custom rods shaped to follow the corners, for instance, of that dormer window, so that when you open the curtains, they are mostly perpendicular to the window. You could also have the curtains frame the opening, instead of the window, sort of like portieres. I've also used asymmetric rods, where the end with little room just has an end cap; and the curtain also needs an effective hold back for when it needs to be open.

i would just hang a light lace panel inside the window frame, using a thin rod that can be found at any home store (the kind that has rubber ends and adjusts to the window width), Pretty windows, I would not ruin them with too much dressing.

I agree with sasafras - lace panels, inside mount. Hope Loribee doesn't mind that I am linking to her smocked sheers. Love them hanging straight.

Pretty roller blinds with fabric to complement the room color. Smith and noble has lots of examples.

Another vote for simple soft Roman shades, hung at the ceiling, the full width of the dormer.

But first, what do you want functionally in re light, privacy and flexibility? And do you want WT to add color or pattern or is the room already "enough"?

I'm not really into lace. I like the idea of a fabric blind to soften the windows.

I'm not too worried about privacy - we do have neighbors, but they are a distance away and we are uphill from them.
The room gets wonderful afternoon light so I don't think we really need sunlight blocking as that's not when we're in bed.

Not a fan of lace, flounces or frills. We like very simple treatments be it drapes or blinds. We've done wood slat blinds before and liked them, but I like the idea of softening with a fabric.

The room can easily take some dressing - it's a good size room but not really that exciting.

For your windows I would recommend shutters.

You might also consider Hunter Douglas Silhouettes. They are pricey, but soft, simple and give some of the light/privacy control of a shutter or wood blind. I have seen some nice color choices in the Silhouettes and some attractive fabric textures.

I am a huge fan of fabric covered roller shades, and if you are looking to add a little color to the room that would be a great choice and not so pricey.

I personally think simple loose roman shades, similar to what browynsmom showed, hung not full width of dormer, but inside the window trim, would be lovely.

I second the idea of Silhouettes, or a knockoff such as Comfortex Shangri-La Sheer Horizontal Window Shadings.

Would you mind sharing the name of the blue paint you used? It is lovely.

We had Silhouettes in our last Philly house and I didn't love them.

Do people not like those wood slat blinds anymore? Have they gone out of vogue? I do like the idea of a fabric blind a lot. Hopefully we can find some options that will work with the paint color. So hard!!

Graywings - the paint color is Wedgewood Gray - we've used it before (with wood blinds now I think about it) and love the color. This is the 3rd house we've had a Wedgewood Gray bedroom in. We're such creatures of habit. Lol.

Slat blinds are not out of style. Your wood slat blinds look great.

I suggested Silhouettes because you wanted fabric and I think Roman Shades would cover too much of the window and let less light in. Silhouettes and some of the nicer cellular shades add an interesting textural element to a room that do now show well in photos, IMO. In a previous house, I had special order cellulars that had the appearance of linen.

Would something like this work?

We just replaced our 15 year old wood blinds with.........wood blinds. The originals were small slats and the dogs and kids managed to break some of the slats so rather than fix them we opted for new blinds with wider slats. I've always loved them and I like the way you can adjust the slats.

We did hang drapes across the bay window to soften the look and dress it up since the window is so large.

Another vote for relaxed roman shades!
