Notification: USB device not recognized

Getting bombarded all of the sudden by these notifications. Turned them off after a while. What causes this generation of "endless" notifications ad nauseum??? I hear/saw it once so why repeat it forever???

Need more details. What's all plugged in via USB? Any new device added or a different cable?

Nothing different/changed than in the previous months. The slots in the desktop are being used by a mouse, keyboard, iphone charger; there is an unused slot but it does not work. I would suspect it obviously as I can try to connect the mouse there and it will not work. No idea what is going on.

If you do the Flash update and use IE along with another alternative browser you will have to do the update more than once. Use the target browser and access the site via the link RC provided above. The Solution portion of the page will provide a link to the Player Download Center. You should be automatically be linked to the appropriate update. Then, to do another browser do the same process with the new target browser. Be sure to be aware of the .exe file names if you save them to install. They are ever so slightly different in name and size. DA

When you reinstalled the software for the printer, did you have it disconnected from your computer? HP usually requires all the software to be installed first, and then the hardware connected. If you still have your original setup instructions, follow those step by step and see if your printer is then recognized.

I know this is a long time coming. But I remembered this question when I ran across the following information recently. If you have XP Home, Go to your control panel, Double Click the Scanners and Cameras folder to open Connect your camera and turn it on then Right-click on the Camera Icon Left Click on Properties Left Click on the "Events" Tab in the Camera Pop-Up Window There you can either set a program such as "Microsoft Scanners and Camera Wizard" or put a check in "Prompt for which program to run". Which will open that options menu you speak of. There are two other choices there that are pretty well self explanatory. Make sure you click on "Apply" and "OK" If you Use Kodak Easy Share programs below is some other information about seeing your camera in My Computer. For a Windows XP operating system, it is not possible to see the camera as a drive letter when EasyShare software is installed. You can mount the camera as a drive using the Windows imaging acquisition (WIA) driver. To change from the Kodak driver to the WIA driver, do the following: Connect and turn on the camera. In the Transfer window, click Cancel. On the desktop, right-click the My Computer icon, and then select Properties. Select the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager. Click the + sign in front of Universal Serial Bus controllers, and then select the Kodak camera. Select the Driver tab, and then click Update Driver. Select Install from a list or specific location, and then click Next. Select Don't search. I will choose the driver to install, and then click Next. Select Digital Still Camera, and then click Next. Hi DA, On the back of the package it says this. Interface: USB 2.0 (Also compatable with USB 1.1 Ports) Operating System: Windows Vista, XP, 2000 Macintosh 9x and higher Linux kernel 2.6 x and higher Additional Functions: Password Security ( Supported on Windows operating systems only) Doesn't that Verbatim come with a U3 application already installed. I don't see it anywhere on the package. it should put an icon on your System Tray/Notification Area. Yes it does put an icon on my System Tray/Notification Area. When finished just double click on the U3 icon and a small window will appear in the lower right quadrant. Select Eject. When I double click on the Icon a box pops up and says this. Select the device that you want to unplug or eject, and then click Stop. When Windows notifies you that it is safe to do so unplug the device from your computer. Under Hardware Devices: USB Mass Storage Device I highlight USB Mass Storage Device and then click Stop and another box pops up and says,Confirm devices to be stopped. Choose OK to continue. Windows will attemp to stop the following devices, after the devices are stopped they may be removed safely. I highlight Verbatim Store'n'Go and click on OK. I hear a little pop noise and everything in that box including the one that I highlighted (Verbatim) disappears and so does the icon. That's when I know to pull out the USB Drive. That pop noise as I call it is a normal windows sound not a problem with the computer. Kind of like when I turn my printer on Windows makes a noise to let me know it has connected. I was getting problems on one desktop & ended up being a bad USB port. It's OK as long as I avoid using that port. Also the device(s) might be having issues -- keyboards are particularly cheap & poor in quality nowadays.

So far, only one of the three has a problem. And it is not being used. I plugged the mouse on the other three and it worked fine on all three ports. No idea what's going on.

This warning can happen when a cord or plug end connection is starting to fail. For example, the contacts can be dirty or misaligned, or one of the many internal wires is starting to develop a crack or have a bad connection. You’re getting multiple messages because the connection is fluctuating and each time this happens the computer recognizes it as a problem. If you want to diagnose where the problem lies, turn the notifications back on. Then, the next time you get a flood of them, you should be able to discover which one is the culprit by unplugging the devices and plugging them back in one at a time. It may also be possible for you to figure this out by looking at your Device Manager, and seeing if any of them have yellow warning flags.

I already tried diagnosing that way when the flood of messages originally happened. Will look at this Dev Mgr suggestion that you mentioned.

kudzu and bengz6westmd, a late update: the problem was due to the Dell Mouse/Keyboard combo. I replaced them with a new pair and the problem went away. The PC ports have been working fine since then too.
