need help deciding on dark or light countertop for vantiy?
Comments (1)I love what you've done so far. The marble makes it very timeless, but stacking the tiles as you did introduces a contemporary feeling that appeals to me. It seems you have a warm, dark floor tile, and everything else is really primarily white. Since you have texture on the floor (the "wood" grain) and on the walls (the "marble" veining), I would think you don't want to go too busy with your countertop material. I've had trouble finding granite that is internally consistent, except for some of the very dark granites, like absolute black or black galaxy, etc. And I don't think I would like that with your other choices. Other stones with more movement will clash with your marble. I know it's more costly, but I would go with a white or gray quartz (like Caesarstone Blizzard or Pebble), the white should go with the other whites you've already chosen and the gray should match the veining in your wall tile. If you vanity is small enough, you might be able to find a remnant of the quartz, which would make it less expensive. I look forward to seeing pics of your completed bathroom. Good luck!...See MoreNeed help in deciding how to remodel kitchen!
Comments (42)rrs626- Your choices are beautiful! I love your granite and backsplash. What a difference from what you first were considering. I love the new backsplash vs the cream that you were thinking about. I can't wait to see it up. As for me, we are moving slow. I have all our walls patched and sanded and the old backsplash is down. I am going to start painting in the next week. We are waiting on countertops for now due to some uncertainty with the economy. Once my husband is a little busier with work, we'll move forward. I'll post some pics of the new paint job because even that little change will help. Hopefully, we'll have the new countertops in the near future. Sorry, I didn't catch your posts earlier. You made some great choices!...See MoreDon't want to decide lights yet, but need to know how many- help?
Comments (9)stacy; I'm confused by the light planning as well. This thread has helped me, as well as previous threads on simular topics. You asked whether people got "lighting consultants". Well, after my electrician came to give me a quote and suggested dropping the height of the cabinets to install flourescent lights above, and not using can lights because they can throw a shadow, I knew I needed help. I called one of the local lighting stores and asked if they would provide guidance. They were very happy to tell me that if I brought in my plans -- even rough plans, with pictures of my current lighting, they would help me figure out what I needed. So yes, contact a local lighting store and they will likely help you out!...See MoreNeed help with lighting over kitchen - how many lights, switch?, etc.
Comments (1)@jessicabaskerville, Given the extra ceiling height, your open area plan, and overall island size I suggest using 3 pendants of the size you're currently considering. See attached image for approximate layout. Keep the height so anyone standing at the island can see through to other spaces un-obstructed by the base of the pendants. The island pendants should be on a separate dimmer for better overall control of kitchen lighting. Also, be careful of your bulb choice since bare bulbs will produce some glare (another reason to use a separate dimmer). Please post pics when your project is completed....See More- 3 years agolast modified: 3 years ago
