Acid reflux - GERD
Comments (11)I used to suffer greatly. When my symptoms were at their worst I lost all my hunger response. I never got hungry no matter how long between meals. I decided to use this to my advantage and lose some weight. I kept having these episodes where I felt my blood pressure drop and I became dizzy and light headed - a major pain while driving to work. When I went back to the doctor she added up all the calories I consumed in a day and yelled at me for not eating enough!!! A large sized man cannot function on less than 1000 calories in a day. oops. I used to think it was the sausage or pepporoni on the pizza that caused the problem because that is what the aftereffects tasted like. Wrong! it was the tomato sauce. To this day I rarely eat tomatoes or rich foods. Surprisingly things like jalapeno peppers and onions do not cause a problem for me - but something intense like a jelly bean candy will give me three days of heartburn (and I mean ONE candy!). I was not much of a candy eater before so my problems came and went randomly, which made pinning down the problem causers that much harder. Sugar is my number one enemy - overly sweet foods cause most of my problems. I've said it before and I'll say it again - read about apple cider vinegar. It has been a godsend to me! If I end eating too much food or something I ate makes me uncomfortable all I do is slurp/sip a capfull of vinegar. It burns like heck going down and for a few moments you'll be convinced you have just poisoned yourself but soon thereafter you will notice ALL of your symptoms gone and gone for hours. Now I take a dose of vinegar every evening before going to bed and not only is my stomach doing better but all sorts of health problems are gone. It truly has been a wonder cure for me. Just remember that it is a strong harsh chemical and you only want to take tiny doses of it - and to wait ten minutes before you attempt to sue me for this advice. Everyone I know that can get over the taste raves about its curing powers. Also, pay attention to how you position your head when you sleep. I used to prop myself up on many pillows, and I raised up the head of my bed by 4 inches. After the vinegar cure entered my life I starting sleeping on a single very flat pillow and it has greatly helped me at night. Its almost as if you sleep with any bend in your throat it signals your stomach to produce too much acid. Well, in my experience at least....See MoreAcid Reflux suffers lets talk...

Comments (47)Wow, I was searching for something else and came across this old thread. Since I have had some experience I thought I'd drop in with my own particular solution... I think it will work for most people though. Drink "green juice"... its simply concentrated fresh veggies. Mainly greens like lettuce, spinach, dandelions, beet greens, etc stuff like that run through a juicer... NOT a Blender, blenders leave all the roughage in, which dilutes the flavors and bulks up and is just plain too much extra to drink. Root veggies are okay to add as well, especially carrots and beets. Cabbage related veggies are too strong flavor-wise and will render the juice very unpleasant to drink, mushroom will make it taste like the forest floor. Fruits will make it more palatable but do add a lot of sugar in the form of fructose its so best to limit that. Drink just a cup of green juice at least once a day and within a week or two, no more acid attacks, ever! If I fall off the wagon (stop drinking it daily) in about a month the night-time acid issues resume. I've been doing this for almost twenty years now, the pattern/connection is un-mistakeable. Additional benefits from drinking green juice... sleep more soundly, blood pressure normalized after the first several months, bowle movements are quite regular within 20 minutes after having my morning green juice. And I'm not the only one... my wife and several friends also drink green juice with similar results. My conclusion is we (meaning everyone) just aren't getting enough of what freshly consumed vegetables supply (likely high concentrations of minerals in highly absorbable forms) into our diets... so fix the diet and you'll likely fix a number of physical health issues. Its not a magic potion, its not a drug to instantly treat symptoms.... Rather green juice is real nutrition and so it will take time to work, it needs to be a lifestyle change, if you treat it as a fad it will have no lasting results. Peace, I'm outta here......See MoreChild with acid reflux
Comments (10)Hi I am a 14 teen year old teenager that has been struggling with Acid Reflux my entire life. What your describing definitely sounds like acid reflux, don't let anyone tell you differently. A lot of the time I don't want to eat, because your daughter is right it is painful and uncomfortable and sometimes unbearable to live with. I know you don't want her to stop eating but don't force her to eat. If she doesn't eat right away she will. I have found that if my parents tell me to eat something, most of the time it makes me not want to eat something even more. If she does say she is hungry but in pain I have found that cold foods help. I often eat popsicles, little containers of peaches or applesauce that I put in the fridge and sometimes just drinking ice water. It soothes the esophagus an stops the burning. Now let her know that the symptoms wont always be 100% there but most of the time some type of symptom will always be there. Some days you wont feel a thing. Other days it will be awful. Some tricks that I have found help is to elevate the top of her bed on bricks. This keeps her head above her stomach and stop the flow of acid when she sleeps or is laying down. Don't lay down straight away after eating. Try to have her stay in an upright position for an hour after eating. Also I have found that drinking an 8 oz glass of apple juice before bed helps knock down the acid. Also as a girl who is growing and going through the pain of acid reflux, expect that she will have some moody days. It is not fun to go through and sometimes you need your space. Lastly, I know it can get confusing with the many different medication but I would like to tell you to not give up I have been on 15 medications and none of them have worked and now I have found a miracle medicine called Aciphex. It has helped both me and my father, who also suffers from Acid Reflux. I definitely recommend asking your doctor about it. Hope this helps....See Morepamghatten
