Phrase of the day 2/21

People who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones

This phrase is about as old as anything is written English. Chaucer has a variation of it in Troilus and Criseyde, using the word verre for “glass” (as the French still do) and substituting “head” for “house.” But he makes his point strongly: “And for-thy, who hath a hed of verre,/For cast of stones war him in the were (war).”
