Hand that rocks the cradle

When feminists threaten to make their voices heard and their influence felt in every aspect of our culture, it is perhaps amusing to note that this famous line might fit our situation better if it were rephrased to read: “The hand that refuses to rock the cradle…”

The original version from the pen of a 19thcentury poet, William Ross Wallace:

“They say that man is mighty/He governs land and sea…/But a mightier power and stronger/Man from his throne has hurled./And the hand that rocks the cradle/Is the hand that rules the world.”

I don't think feminists refuse to rock the cradle. I think they are pointing out that women's hands can be equally at home holding a scalpel, penning a statute, driving a tractor, etc. And that men's hands can fit the cradle as well.

I worked on the designs of a line of furniture that we called Darby, which included a lounge chair, ottoman, dining chairs, bench, sofa, and settee. It started with the lounge chair before I was there, and then I worked on the rest. I made full-scale cardboard models of the dining chairs and bench. Back legs of the chair are laminated cardboard, to illustrate the curves. That's my only experience with Darby. We had a CFO named Joan.

Interesting timing Jim. Our local news recently reported that Spring, 2021 is the year of our Brood X (or 17 year) cicada emergence.
