Do you have any white paint lying around at home? Because what I'd do is paint the walls the aqua and paint the strip of ceiling white. Then if I didn't like that, for whatever reason, I'd take some of the leftover aqua paint and mix it with a bit of white, to tone it down a bit, and paint the ceiling with that. Then if I didn't like that look, I'd paint the ceiling full-strength aqua. Growing up in an 1880s Victorian, we all looked forward to moving up to the attic rooms when we were teens. All the rooms had sloping walls, with varying amounts of ceiling. My parents let us go a bit crazy with the paint. Just based on my experience, a tiny bit of white ceiling can look a bit odd if the wall color is dark. If the wall color is fairly light, the white ceiling doesn't stand out as much. If you want more than one color on the walls, you need to make the two colors very different colors, not shades of the same color. For example, one room was seafoam green on the slanted bits and dark faded red on the vertical bits and it actually looked pretty good. And there was the lime green and dark blue room, which again, looked better than you'd think. The darker color looks best on the vertical, with the lighter color on the sloped portions. Your daughter's room won't seem like an aqua cave if the floor, bedding, curtains and other accessories are different colors. Get some fun colors on the bed and floor and see what happens.

Now I'm sure this will sound weird, but here goes. In my old house I had knee walls. I didn't like the look of a bare low 6 drawer dresser without the mirrored top that went with it (it was a hutch mirror top). I cut down the wood and framed it around the mirror (let the excess fall behind the dresser-no glass cutting) and made a shorter version that fit perfectly into the knee wall area. (years ago, no pics, sorry). You could also use one of those inexpensive long mirrors meant to hang on a door. Turn it sideways and frame it out to match the dresser. While it's too short to actually use as a mirror on the dresser, it gives the illusion that it's a full size mirror. Or if the dresser has a matching mirror, either attach it to the wall or add a cleat to the back of the dresser to hold the excess height. Illusion is everything!

If you want the flexibility for furniture movement, a room with double sloped ceilings and a window at the end and door at the other doesn't have that. So, I think it makes sense to just build it the inspiration picture. This picture doesn't appear to have a closet (maybe on far side, under other eave?) Or, maybe it is behind the picture, near the door. Without the bed, it could be considered a "bonus" room, and may be considered one instead of a bedroom, because it doesn't have a closet. If you put doors on the book cases at the window end, it'd have a closet. It would also be a little less expensive. But, I don't think costs will be ridiculous, and this built in style makes perfect sense for this type of living space.

We're almost done remodeling this upstairs attic bedroom. We've expanded the square footage of the room by bumping the walls out more which means sloped ceilings. But I like the look. Now my workers are getting ready to paint and I don't know color to choose. I was thinking of painting the whole room a nice white like "BM Simply White." I've heard that in an attic bedroom it's best to paint the whole room one color. But should I paint the ceiling a slightly different white. Should I paint the room a different color? Advice, tips, opinions. I'd love to hear them.
